matching amps and cabs

ive read into this a bit already, but i will be hooking up a 16 ohm cab to my mesa f-30 1x12. the speaker outputs i have available are 2 4ohm outputs and 1 8 ohm, which is what the combo amp speaker plugs into. i read that any cabs that are 16ohms are usually wired in parallel, reducing it to 4 ohms. Do i just need to plug a 16ohm cab into 1 4ohm output? Help me out on this one please

don´t plug a 16 ohm cab into the 4 ohm output of your amp!
if the 16 ohm cab is a 4x12 cab, you can rewire it internal to 4 ohm. after that you can plug it into the 4 ohm out of the amp. but you´ll have to disconnect the internal speaker of the combo than.
16 ohm + 16 ohm = parallel 8 ohm
8 + 8 = parallel 4 ohm
4 + 4 = parallel 2 ohm

the speaker outs on the amps are normally wired in parallel.
so if you have two 8 ohm cabs, you must use the 4 ohm output.
btw. mesas manual is very helpful and contains a lot of different connection diagrams.
just take a look at it.

which brand of cab is it? marshall?
if there are four 16 ohm speakers in it, you can rewire it to 4 ohm in total and then plug into the 4 ohm output.

you can plug a 16 ohm into the 8 ohm, but it is a mismatch!

sorry i shoulda been more clearer from the start

its not for my personal setup, im recording a guitarist next week and we are thinking of hooking up my f30 to his cab

its an old matamp white or something, its made by the company that predated orange amps.

ill probly end up asking him to take the back off and check for me as to whether its parallel or series

i believe, that there are 16 ohm speakers in it. wired in pairs serial and both pairs together in parallel to get the 16 ohm total.
