Help! Matching headstocks.

I've found a sweet deal on a Morse Y2D and the only thing holding me back is it has no matching headstock! I know it's silly but I'm very specific and when dealing with a few hundred or even thousands of dollars I feel I have the right to be. I work very hard for my money. That being said, is there a way to change headstock on a guitar? Im sure I'd have to send it in for something like that and by the time I do that I may as well have bought a brand spanking new one. Im sure a procedure like that is expensive, its like surgery for guitars im sure. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

From what BP has said before there's no way to get service done on your guitar at SLO that would change it from how it was produced. Dont quote me, im just relaying some 411 here. As far as I know the only way to get a matching headstock is to find another guitar with one and an owner willing to swap necks.

For what its worth I think all Y2Ds look way better with the natty headstock. I know its your particular taste in aesthetics, but my dream Y2d is a flame tobacco burst hard tail with natty headstock. I dunno why for the SM models but matching HS always looked a little off to me.

All taste is personal, but I dig my natty headstock Y2D as well. Might be too much purple otherwise.

If the factory won't do it, then it can't be done since there is no way to replace the decals.

Go commando with a natty headstock.

I'll chime in on the Y2D since this is my go to guitar. I myself am usually partial to matching headstocks. HOWEVER on the Y2D in purple sunset, a natural headstock to me looks much better. I think it compliments the inner light color of the burst, and also if you have a nice birdseye neck this is also a nice show case. My particular Y2D has a pretty dark maple so the headstock looks nice and figured. The other cool thing about the Y2D, is that even the natural headstock has a gloss finish whereas on any other EBMM you would not see that.

Now if you were to get the De-purple burst, I think that color is quite dark and needs a matching headstock. Tobacco burst looks good with both matching and non-matching.

Seriously do not mess up the headstock by trying to refinish. If it is a deal breaker, I'd just wait until "little miss perfect" comes along.

Natty headstocks look great. Don't sweat on it and get it. no one else will notice.

Devin, I would make a conservative guesstimate that 98% of the Morse guitars out there have a natural headstock because that is how Steve Morse gets his, and how most dealers order their stock Morse models. If you want matching you should order the guitar that way because finding one out in the wild will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I have the natural headstock on my Y2D, and it looks stunning.

See it for yourself and decide, it is a very personal choice.

I have a natural on my Y2D as well, it looks fantastic. IMHO, matching looks better on maple than rosewood

+1 on the Y2D, natural headstock balances it out in my opinion.

On other models my preference varies: JP6 matching, AL natural, Reflex.. no choice available so that's an easy one!

Matching/Natural headstock would never be a dealbreaker for me though.

Seriously: if it plays and sounds great, I wouldn't hesitate. But if it's of that much importance to you, don't buy it and wait till the one with a matching headstock comes your way.

Yeah but I've found what appears to be a near mint Y2D for only 1300!! Can I get a morse Y2D with matching headstock for 1400?

Yeah I've been watching videos of morse playing a Y2D with a natural head stock. I'm not gonna lie. I dig it now more so natural then with a matching headstock. I told my fiancé about possibly buying it but then she told me if I just wait she'll buy me the stallion when it comes out! Any word on when it goes into mass production?

I prefer natural. But some of my EBMMs have matching headstocks. At the end of the day, it's the tone and playability that matter.
