Just curious if you've spent much time with the stock single neck p'up on a Special? My favorite of all time.

I think maybe the body wood has an influence? Alder is such a stratty wood compared to ash. the AL neck pup is very close to the silo special in tone.

Alder is typically warmer sounding, while ash is typically brighter sounding. Early Strats also used ash.

Actually, if a Silo Special were available in mahogany, it would probably kill any other 2 humbucker guitar.

Other than the extra 2 frets, that's not a far cry from the Silo 20th with mahogany tone block.

Its the fret count, really. The neck pickup, which I use most of the time, sounds a lot better to my ears on a 22 fret neck.

+1 on that one - I have never liked the sound of a neck humbucker on a 24 fret guitar.
