Memories of Your First EBMM

I remember the first one I ever played or laid eyes on.

I was GASin HARD for a Warwick FNA Jazzman 5 and went into the local music store praying that they would have one. When they said they didn't, I asked, "Well, what exactly would you recommend?" "A Peavey Grind 5!", he replied.

Then I look to my immediate right and there she was. A beautiful trans red StingRay 5 with a maple board, and a white pearloid pickguard.

This was over 3 years ago and she still sits with me today as the strongest axe in my arsenal.

Bought my 1st MM in '84 from a small shop outside of Omaha. A '78 "Ray, that was hangin' on the wall.

I traded an old aluminium necked Kramer and $200 for it.

I've still got it, 23 years later.

My first MM is my current bass, though I am just waiting for my truck to be paid off, and then I will be purchasing another. I had a few basses before that, a G&L that was great, but heavy, (shoulda kept it!!!), then an Ibanez 4 string, followed by another Ibanez, a 5 string this time, then an Alembic, which I loved, but was too fussy and sensitive for my abusive playing style. Got ANOTHER Ibanez, a real fancy one, then in 1997 went to the store and saw the MM SR5. I tried it out, heard the B string, and traded on the spot plus cash. I bought it 12 days after it was made! My case also smelled great, but didn't work so well after I backed over it. Now I have a new SKB style molded case...its pretty good, but not as cool as the wood ones!
My SR5 is the bass I have had the longest, and I will never sell or trade it!

My SUB5 I bought last November. It may be my first but it definitely won't be my last.

I'm in vulture mode for a 4 string EBMM.

my first EBMM was an SR5 in white with a maple board, I still kick myself for letting that one go.
