Anyone played or own any of these? I was thinking of getting the Express 5:50 from GC. I've only played it for a few minutes but liked what I've heard.
They can be had for not to expensive and sound stellar!
They are basically a no nonsense rock amp with amazing cleans and very good overdrive. Very versatile.
The only thing I'm not 100% content with is the reverb, but I don't use much of that anyway.
I'm currently using an Express 5:25 which I;ve had for about 2 years, I bought it to replace an Orange AD-15 and a Seymour Duncan 84-40 as I wanted a single small valve combo with EL84s and that would give me some options and included an option for class A operation (I get some kind of mystic comfort from the words "Class-A" for some reason - probably just an affectation from having that kind of amp over the years ;-) )
I have to say that I think it covers pretty much all the bases I want to cover and the sounds are solidly good to my playing friends ears as well as mine.
That said, I've not tried an F- Class or Nomad although a player I rate reckoned that the F-50 was the one to have from the F range.
As my first Boogie, I found it definately needed a fair bit of setting up and EQing to get the really good sounds from it, (where as the AD-15 just sounded fab with everything on 10 with no messing, and plenty of master volume) - which was a bit of an education for me - however there are some very good sounds in there.
I know what the guys mean about sterile sounding - and out of the box it definately gave me that impression of not being as bouncy and forgiving as my other amps (I had it from brand spankers new) - after 6 months of regular light/medium use I thought it did mellow to a decent extent - the other option being that I got used to its character - so there is that subjective element to it ;-)
I think the answer, as ever, it to try them all out - ideally for a decent stint, and with a few guitars - and then make your decision after that.
Not sure how much use that is, apart from to fill up a page on the forum !
