.... .... and the valves have to be matched.
When my mate gets a new order (very large box) of valves, they all have their ratings/measurements on the side of the box, so he can use matched pairs.

Also, for convenience, Mesa sells matched sets of tubes.

I seriously cannot wait now! I've never played through a valve amp before! I'll try and make sure to record myself demoing the amp this weekend! I should have a buddy with me who can record.

Don't forget you can use the built-in Cab Clone in the Mark V:25 with its XLR out. That ought to make it pretty easy.

I really like this amp. I saw it a few weeks ago. I love the feature set on it. The cabclone is somewhat over rated. I have tried the version they released back in early Sept and it is ok but not nearly the quality of tone you would get from something like a Two-Notes Torpedo or the WOS-III plugin. I'll grant it that with low and mid gain type of settings it will do very, very well. That type of loadbox tends to sounds a bit fizzy with the higher gain stuff. In the end though, with some good eq and patience, it will do great things. The size and features on it are fantastic.

Yeah, the tubes are fine, quality is good. I have had great luck with them. Let us know if I am incorrect.

Talked to the ex-Mesa guy today. Yes, he said pre-amp tube swaps are fine but power section amps should be Mesa branded. The reason is indeed biasing, Mesa-Boogie measures each tube to make sure they work with the fixed bias setting in the amp, not using Mesa parts could violate the warranty.

But as I said, Mesa tubes are reasonably priced and it's always nice that the company does an additional check before they are resold.

Interesting info there. Since I'm sure the Mesa tubes are just rebranded, I wonder who actually makes their tubes?

As a former Mark V owner myself, I would have likely bought the 25W version myself had it been available. Pair this amp with a nice vertical 2x12 or even a nice ported 1x12 and you have a great little rig. I have also owned the Mini-Rectifier and the new Rectoverb 25(much better than the mini-Rec), and I find that the EL-84's add something to these amps that the 6L6's and EL34's don't have. The gain channels seemed to be more fluid and creamy than their big brothers. The clean channels were also spectacular. If the Mark V 25 has the same thing with the EL-84's, it must be one hell of an amp. I loved my full size Mark V, best amp ever in my mind, but the lack of a current gigging band has relegated me to an Axe FX II rig which is more practical. I may have to check this amp out though, can't hurt to have both, right?

Interesting if the Mini Rectifier does not sound like a recto verb as the recto verb is basically the Mini Rectifier circuit with reverb added. Anyway, these 10/25W amps fits a perfect gig scenario where you want to push the tubes but can't play loud due to the location. If someone needs more wattage, then it's good to have a 50-100W amp around. A 2x12 or 4x12 cab and that makes it a very flexible config.

right now we're running the minirec thru a Carvin 2x12 slant w/ V30s. Works quite well...

We do plan on getting one of the proper Mesa 1x12 slants for it next year though.

The M5/25 videos show them using a number of different cabs with that head, as it's even more versatile.

Uh oh boys... Look who's got his hands on one. Hopefully someones pointing a camera at him while he's using one so we can hear if theres much of a tonal difference.
