The majority of the MKIV and V tone comes from the pre-amp. In the Owners manual, Mesa goes out of their way to make this clear. While you can push the power section through a myriad of ways, the tone of the MKV is by far found in the pre amp section. This makes playing the amp at lower volumes very easy. Granted, you will not move as much air, but, tone will still be there, AND, you will have a Boogie Mark V for any other situation that will come along, like resale.
