IMO, You will never get another amp to sound like a Mesa except a Mesa. I know every one is going to the new lightweight thing of the future but a majority of the lightweight I have played especially Markbass has been lightweight on tone! Sorry if this sounds harsh but I have played LOTS of amps and can tell you from experience. Now if you like the Markbass sound then get a Markbass it wont do Mesa, but it will sound like a lot others and a lot of others will sound like the Markbass. As far as distortion it will depends on the amp you get solid state VS tubes, I have found they both react VERY different to distortions. So it all depends on what you want, I knocking any amp company im just giving my opinion.
