No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today
My heart goes out to Steve and his family! I'm really sorry to hear about your loss Steve! May all the wishes of your family, friends, and fans help you through this difficult time.
The situation sounded so similar to mine that reading that really brought back some memories. In fact, today marks 18 months since my father passed.
In honor of Steve and his family, I just loaded up my MP3 player (from CDs I own) with some Steve Morse for my afternoon here at work!
My condolences to you Steve on the loss of your father. As a parent I can only wish of being as great as your dad was and pray that both my sons turn out as good as you.
My grandfather who was like a second father to me, went very suddenly while I was out of town on a gig. It will be 7 years on the 24 of March, and I am still dealing with the fact that I was unable to get back to say my goodbyes. So as much as I respect Steve the musician, his (not surprising) choice of family has enhanced my respect of Steve the man.
Money is only money,
Fame is just fame,
It's your friends and your family,
That's the prize in this game.
I'm sorry to hear that. However, with each Steve's sound, sight or word, he grows more and more in my eyes. As a person, not only a musician. He is really one of the most normal, polite and modest people in the music business.
Last year I travelled from the UK to Cologne in Germany to catch Steve doing an Engl amps clinic - I met him (and his gorgeous friendly wife) afterwards and was stunned at how such an amazingly talented and successful man was so humble.
I saw the Steve Morse band and the Dixie Dregs in San Juan Capistrano the night before his Dad passed away - I had been at the NAMM show all day - was beyond tired and really felt like hitting the bar for an hour then going to bed BUT I paid over a $100 taxi fare to get to the gig - I met Norm, Keith and other fans and had one of the best gigs ever. Being up close watching Steve play the music closest to his heart was a memory I'd never get to see in the UK and therefore even more special.
I lost my Dad when I was 20, just lost my wife's uncle at his age of 67 (who was a great man in every sense of the word) - our time here is temporary we should all make the most of it.
Steve - the pain fades over time - the legacy of those who influence us shines forever.
