It was at the last NAMM show they ever had in Chicago. I worked at the building it was hels at the time, so I got a pass.
The Tony Levin thread got me to thinking about this, because Steve, just like Tony, was exceptionally cool, humble, and generally a nice guy, with no discernable 'attitude'. He spent as much time answering questions on a one to one basis as anybody wanted.
