Met the guys from Strings n things & Kery King & Jim Marshall & Tygers of Pan Tang

Today a buddy took me along to the annual "Music Live" exhibition at the Birmingham NEC.

Kerry King from slayer was on the Marshall stand but best of all for me was that I got to meet Jim Marshall OBE.
He's 84 years old now and has had a stroke also a bout of pneumonia, but there he was, as proud as ever, signing away. He signed a copy of the Marshall book for me and a Hendrix poster for my son. He was interested to hear about my little ol Silver Jubilee amp - he reckons they were one of the best amps that Marshall made.
Later one of his staff said I should pop into the factory with the front or rear of the amp and he would sign it for me.

Later on I found the Strings n Things stand - they had every EB there - BFR's 'n all.
and Mr Horsepower. I compared all the EB necks and found the Axis similar to my BCB AL.

They had a guy with a mask on jamming away and inviting people up - he was good too - who is he??

I got to try a Bongo 4 string - very nice but someone needs to sit me down and explain all the knobs.

The Tygers played a nice set on the big stage - man that vocalist is good!!!

A nice way to spend a Sunday !!

Nah, Kerry said "Hey Spud how's it going??"

He was next to Jim as Marshall as I was talking to him - getting himself warmed up for the sound proof room.

S & T - Did they have any string wipes yesterday?

I was drawn to the Luke too - but i'd need some time with it - maybe if I could get a second hand one for the right price !!!

did you see the british racning green marshalls at soundcontrol?
i have been thinking of getting a TSL for a while now (well after the next ball) and im more a traditional black marshall man but i thought they looked alright, so i may have to break open the piggybank (presuming the cost isnt way way above normal!)

Yes I did - it looked VERY nice indeed. My mate wanted to get a Peavey Valve king and had me try one out on the Peavey stand. He bought one from Soundcontrol and took it to the loading bay - whilst at the bay we drooled over the BRG Marshall 4 x 12 -(I ain't starting lugging one of those muthas about again !!)

First big show like that I have been too - I'll go again next year - maybe BP'll come over for it??

Jim Marshalls PA gave me her details ;) and will arrange a time for me to go along to the Marshall factory when Dr J Marshall OBE will be there- yipeee!!!

Ha yeah I noticed that too - but the Rosetti stand was swarming with people playing all the guitars.

Had a chat with the guy from Torres and with the guitar builder Patrick Eggle - what a gentleman. I noticed that John Birch was there too.

Yes Patrick Eggle is a top bloke, i went round the factory in coventry a few years ago (oh hang on it was about 16 !) when he still ran it and he was a nice chap to this 12 year old picking up his guitars ! as was Peter Goalby (who was in Uriah Heap I believe) who ran it for a while..... we are off the balls herer though

it was so difficult to try things out - Marshall had a soundproof booth but that was being used by Kerry!!

I tried the Peavey out and for the money they are a good amp - especially at the showprice.

I won't be in Dubai this Xmas but looks like I'll be over for Easter.
Will you still be there?

Yipeeee !

Just had an E mail from Jim Marshalls PA and it's "all systems go" for a trip up to the factory in December - he'll sign the Back of my Marshall and I've been invited on a factory tour - I didn't ask for it but I won't turn down an invite like that!!! :D:D:D

I was there Saturday. Didn't see Jim Marshall unfortunately, Saw Duff that was about it.

The EBMM 'Devil' was an awsome player - great fun.

But what's with Wonder Wipes in the UK. ! They have been pretty heavily advertized in the Mags for a couple of months, they have been well reviewed in Guitartist. Yet I have asked in 5 different (quite large) guitar shops and none of them have even heard of them(despite stocking EBMM products). So I'm thinking there must be some at the Music Live show. Well no! there were scores of exhibitors but no Wonder wipes to be found not even on the strings and Things stand.

I've got to conclude that whoever is paying for the Magazine advertising is wasting their money!
