TI flats suit my SR 5 just right and let me sit right in the mix where I want to. Tone being such a subjective thing I guess it is a wonder than any two people could even play the same brand bass and string and come up with a similiar love of that combination.

Getting back to how well TI's last.....the set on my fretless Pbass are at least four years old and still have a nice thump.I also haveThomastik Spirocores on my upright.

I prefer flats of any kind over rounds but that is me. My Jazz is strung with Fender 9050's and does it sound good oh boy. Still think the SR 5 with the TI flats is the do it all deal for me.

I prefer strings to last too.

I had 9050's on my P for about a week. Tossed 'em in the rubbish bin. Went straight back to roundwounds. I do want to try out some TI flats though. I played 2 of Bovine's basses and really liked the feel and sound of those strings.

I know I should probably search around, but since this is already being disussed... What exactly is the sound and feel? From what I've been told/read I'd basically just be getting rid of All of my attack to get some sort of wierd mellow sound...

TI's are a low tension flatwound, and are not as thick as most flats.They are best played with a light touch if you keep your action low.They are not for everyone but there are legions that swear by them.I had been using 9050's on a couple of basses when I first tried them and switched all of the basses that I keep flats on over to them.I had to make minor truss rod and action changes to get my basses set up the way I like them but it was not a big deal.I could not believe my reaction to them when I first tried them.I can't remember getting excited about stings before.I use them for most gigs that I do but they do sound dull in a solo setting so I tend to practice at home with rounds.Try them.They last forever if you keep them on.

I actually bought 2 Sterlings within 2 weeks & sold:
1 MIM Fender Jazz
1 MIM Fender P
1 MIM Fender Jazz Fretless
1 MIM Fender P-Bass Deluxe
And my Geddy Lee got kicked to the side.

To all that disagree with the 9050's great. They do make the Fender sound good and play reasonable. I am sure TI flats would be great on the Fender too, but I ain't buying new strings for a bass I am going to play once in a blue moon. I carry it to gigs but probably if my SR 5 won't play the gig I will find a sub bass player rather than break out the Fender.

BTW does EB make flats in a 5 strings set?

You could probably buy a single flatwound B string and a regular EB flatwound four string set. The EB website has the 130 gauge for the B string listed as available.

Thanks midopa.. dummy me looked at that and did not even wake up to see that I could do it that way.

Now anyone think I can hit them up for flats for my free strings that I get for registering the bass?

JK actually I got everything from EB I have paid for and more. I never seen an outfit like EB before. I heard of some that thought they offered that kind of QC and support. Just the first time I seen it in action. Guess I am still somewhat dumb founded on that......

I have never had any issues with my Stingray and have not had any reason to deal with Ernie Ball's customer service but I have chatted with people who have and was amazed by their experience. Their customer service is in a league of its own.I don't know of anyone who comes close.They also happen to make some of the finest production instruments on the planet.
