What a great weekend in baseball !!

Alex Rodriguez becomes the youngest player to hit 500 homeruns

Barry Bonds ties Hank Aaron's All-Time Homerun record ( I know this may fire some people up ;) )

Tom Glavine gets his 300th win

Congrats to all :D

Pug,
You seem to be quite a "sports" fan!! By chance to you know anything about the "planks" they use (barry vs. A-Rod)??

Also, do you happen to know what is the record for lifetime wins for a MLB pitcher (living and deceased)?

And, lastly, do you know of any MLB players who play EBMM instruments??

Thanks

Thanks for the questions, I did a quick search on both Barry & A-Rod’s bats and it seems Barry is using a solid maple bat made by Sam Bat. You would probably be better off asking EBMM’s resident Barry Bond historian, Kevin, whose love for Barry knows no bounds:D

As for A-Rod, according to the Lousiville Slugger website, his bat of choice is the following:BAT MODEL: P72 / C271C
WOOD: Ash
FINISH: Black
LENGTH: 34"
WEIGHT: 31 oz.

The most wins of any pitcher in MLB History is Cy Young with an incredible 511 wins.
The active leader for pitchers is “The Rocket” Roger Clemens , who currently has 354 wins.

As for musicians in MLB who may or may not use EBMM, I know Bernie Williams has put out a CD of guitar music but I’m not sure what he plays. I think Scott Spezio has a band too, and I can’t remember his name, but one of Oakland’s pitchers also had a band. BP has some MLB connections, maybe he can shed some light on professional athletes who also use EBMM gear.

Hope that helps, and thanks for the opportunity to do some MLB research.

:) :) Barry uses a 34in 32 ounce and chokes up about an inch on the bat(for the kids listening at home)

Pretty amazing what Maple has done for MLB the last 6 or 7 years, its cause for many extra HR's. Wonder what type of 'BFR Bat" we could build, cork tone block? :)

Does that mean A-Rod could hit a homer run with an Albert Lee?

Barry, of course, would have to use the 20th Silo:)

Pug and Kevin,

Thanks so much for the info - wow, you both know so much!! I never realized that the type of wood a batter chooses is that important, e.g., ash, maple etc. . . just like a guitarist! Cooooooooooooooool.

Chuck's next fight should be a fun one to watch. Chuck vs The Dean of Mean Keith Jardine.....a couple of big swingers! Rampage didn't look to impressive the other night against Henderson, Chuck will take him next fight.

Bass-ic... no sparing here. I did wrestle for 12 + years and have been getting the itch to get back out there, maybe take some Jiu-Jitsu classes for fun and do some submission only tournaments.

Wow, who would have thought there were any mixed martial arts musician's here!! Bp you look just like "just" like a cage fighter! Do you really fight too??

Kevin, 12+ yrs of wrestling (super stat)! Fantastic sport and perfect for Jiu-jitsu application. Yes, I started with the Gracie Brazilian Jiu-jitsu technique, but am re-structuring at this time to more of a "mixed" program (more versatility). My only concern/or disadvantage is that I am overly protective of my fingers/ligaments, etc. . . Punching is ok, I use Tae-Kwondo gloves. Nice to see Francric doing some "tap outs" too!

Hey, let's set up a "mat" for the knuckleheads to spar during the bash! LOL

Scoles Family tradition, my Uncle has coached for 30 + years(my dad for 10+).....so I got started at a young age. Being a Wrestler taught me a lot, once a wrestler...always a wrestler! :) :) We used to have a practice mat set up in the garage.....there is only one sport I love more than baseball! Nowadays my wrestling is limited to the occasional double leg take down or firemans on the back yard lawn. :D:D:p

The whole bat story is very cool. The gentleman has come a long way from making bats in his home in Ottawa.:D Although, I'm not a huge fan of Barry Bonds, he has been a supporter from almost the beginning.

I believe Barry started using that bat during the record breaking season, now almost all sluggers are using it. I find it pretty fasinating.....I wonder how many woods have been tested? I just hope Barry doesn't have any birds eye maple bats :) :)
