Hey all;

You may have seen this pic I posted from last week:

I've uploaded some raw recordings from the practice session when the pic was taken. We are working on a Stax tribute act I hope to get booked.

Nicole's rig is one of the Guitar Center Acoustic 200W amp heads into a GK 4x10 cab. We recorded by arranging ourselves in a circle around a Tascam GT-R1 and recorded ambiently. I pulled the files into GarageBand and added a little compression/reverb.

For anybody wondering whether one can get a old-school Duck Dunn tone from a Big Al SSS, I think these clips may help convince you.

I'm really impressed with the maturity and accuracy with which she is duplicating these classic lines at 16 years old. In peeling back the onion that is the Stax sound, Duck Dunn's driving lines really make or break the tunes.

I've posted the following tunes to my ReverbNation page:

Wrap it up
Dock of the Bay
Soul Man
Born Under A Bad Sign
But It's All Right

Let her know what you all think, I'll get her to check back in here once in awhile!

let me get it straight - your daughter, a 16 y.o., plays the bass on those 5 tracks?!
I'd be surprised enough if someone would have just mentioned their teenage son/daughter likes these old Atlantic Records classics but you really raised the bar.

great stuff!!! she has better feel, timing and tone than a lot of bassists I know who are twice her age (myself included ;-) ).
great stuff, I too wonder where she'll be in 5-10 years if she can sit in with experienced musicians and effortlessly play those 'Duck' Dunn lines!

You can safely leave out the "at 16 years old" part!

And I hear solid playing and sound all around.

I saw Eds clips on youtube & he runs through all the pickup configs but never changes the knobs much. What fantastic tone for rounds, very impressed. I sold my Sterling H that I loved but I think the versatility of the big Al will be VERY awesome. I love my Sterling HH but it CANNOT EVER sound like a Duck Dunn. Great job.
