I just recently purchased a gold MM Axis and was wondering if you could tell me its Date of Birth ?
Its serial # is G33891

Also , could you explain why my guitar has a “ finished” neck ? I thought that all MM Axis guitars had the “ Gunstock oil and hand-rubbed special wax blend “ necks? The Axis that I just purchased is “stock” and has not been altered in any way , but the neck is definitely “finished” , and does not have the "hand rubbed" neck , as most all others that I have seen. This has me very confused, because it has the great birds eye maple neck --- but not that unfinished neck that you would expect to have on the Axis.

I purchased this from my brother, ( who purchased it new from a music store several years ago ) , and he assures me that it has not been modified in any way. I can send you some pictures if you would like. You could see that there is no change in the finish between the back of the headstock and the back of the neck that you would normally see right where the Locking nut assembly is mounted.

Thanks, in advance , for any info that you might be able to provide.

Hey Terrapin "Big warm welcome" to the forum.

I have family in Brentwood Mo, and fondly remember Gravity Strings, Mc Murray Music and some other shops that I can't remember at the moment - well it was 28 years ago and I was helping at the lighting desk when Ozzie and Mottly Crue played the ice stadium - jeez still have the access all areas pass too!

It would be great if you could post some pictures of your guitar - and then I'm sure that you will get a load of replies.

Hope to be in SL MO next year!!

Well Hello to you also. Thanks for responding . Ohh yes I remember old McMurray Music on Page Ave , I purchased my first "real" guitar from McMurray many years ago. It was a 92 Gibson LP Studio , Wine red --- still have it actually ! McMurray went out of business about 4 years ago. Also the The Guitar Exchange in St. Charles went under about 10 years ago. We also had a Mars Music in St. Louis for a short few years, about 95-98 . J. Gravity , Fazio Frets and Things, Killer Vintage still alive . But the 2 Guitar Centers , we now have, ran most of the others out.

Yes, i had many great nights of music in the ol' Blues hockey arena ( Checkerdome ) Wow --- that was a long time ago :(

You doing OK over there accross the pond ??

Yes , I will add some pix to my question. It is a very strange deal --- a stock Axis with a lacquer finished neck ??

Thanks

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah Gravity strings was awesome. I remember that EB did offer a service whereby they treated the necks with a super glue concoction (yeah I know it sounds strange.!) Hey why not post your serial number in the serial number sticky on the forum and also ask about the neck there - you may get some info on the neck?

Yeah all good over here - my bro just came back from a visit to SL a few weeks ago. Over 20 of them went to the Cards BB game and had their names on the scoreboard. Waiting for EB to bring out a gamechanger on the Silo and I will be straight over to SL to get one.

It's a great forum - just get used to the rules and hopefully stick about - don't recollect seeing people from SL here.

Post your request for production date here:

http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/3830-what-production-date-my-guitar.html

They will be able to tell you when it was made. Don't recall any Axis' with finished necks( except for the"roasted" ones).

Hey guys...my son's Axis has a finished neck. It is a highly flamed maple neck. It's a BFR, though.
If it had a Floyd Rose it would be the best Axis EVER!
