Hi guys n gals

1st post!

I've decided to get a Bongo but dont know if a HH or H would be best for me.

I'd like the 2 pickup destructive option but the extra space with the H would mean i could go bonkers without smacking the pickup.

I currently play a Wilkes Supreme (for anyone who knows good old Staffordshire guitars) and i really like its heavy mahogany feel and its got some serious beef with 9v preamp and 2 jazz pickups. But is time I had a Bongo weapon along side my sherman!!

Any advice oh Bongo Gurus???

thanks

ok mammoth, i admit I'm not a bongo guru. but here are the facts as far as I'm concerned.
If you want the great classic tone with ample room to slap yer ass off, then go H.

If you want ALOT of added beef and tonal variety, go HH.

Keep this in mind. H=less variety, but more slap room. (but the tone is still awesome)

while HH=less slap room, but more variety of awesome tone.

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!

BP has described the HH with piezo as the complete tonal package for the serious player - and I've heard a lot of players call the single H "point and click" simple, almost.

So that really just emphasises what Pocket Groove said :D Either way you'll be really really happy - I don't own a Bongo, but I plan for my first Bongo to be a H, and if I feel like there's anything lacking (which is unlikely!) I'll get a HH or HS.

cheers for that guys!

to be honest, i think i'm leaning toward the H.

from what i've heard the H is like owning a rocket, so the HH might actually destroy me :)

i'll let you guys know what i get! today is decision day!!!!

thanks again

Can get plenty of variation out of my singleH bongos. Depends on knob twiddling and right hand position.

If you are looking for something that can do more of the traditional SR sound, get an H. If you are looking for limitless tonal possibilities, get the HH.

You didn't mention it, but lately I have been finding that I like my HS more than my HH . . . . . . FWIW . . . .

Ive owned the following Bongos:

Out of those three, I miss the Single H the most. They were all great sounding basses, each with its own flavor. However, I still to this day kick myself for parting with that Single H Bongo.

Does anyone have any experience with slapping with a HH. I'm getting an Stingray HH soon and I'm a slap bassist so was wondering if thats going to be a problem. I know Pocketgroove already mentioned the less room ordeal but does it bring up a big problem or is it something that you can accomodate to in a couple weeks?

i prefer the HH over the other two configurations. there is something about the seismic low end the HH produces that gets my attention!:D

I've got an HH w/piezo (the piezo is worth it IMHO...I keep a bit of it blended in all the time).

The only bass I GAS for anymore is an H w/piezo. And in between Blue Dawn for 07 and the BFR my credit card is shaking in its boots.

But this GAS is largely because I've never really tried one out and don't really know how it differs from the HHp. (I saw one once, but the biggest amp in the store was a ridiculous, tiny practice amp which was utterly useless).

I have found that I really don't fool with the magnetic pickup blend at all. I like the way it sounds in the middle best, and I get all the tonal variation I need out of the preamp and various blends of the piezo.

BP's favorite is the H. And he being The Boss, I think we should listen to him.

I'm still getting used to the single H but if I was to have only one Bongo , I think I'd actually go with the HH. I've spent so much time with my Candy Red HHp that it just sounds "right" to me. I love the single H for it's snarl and it is a slap monster, but my main bass is still the HH. But damn, my fretless Hsc and single H rule so much it's hard to go wrong at all. Hell, collect the whole set.

Heheh I shall be graced my first Bongo/EBMM Bass at the earliest next month and can't wait for it to arrive :)

I only tried the HH in the store and was blown away by it but when I was ordering it I thought hell a Piezo would be pretty swell...

I don't think I will be dissapointed :D
