Spudmeister, sho nuff your JP is brass. I don't think the Silo Special looks like that, but it's been awhile since I've looked at it, so don't recall. Maybe I should just get off my ass and pop the cover off. :D

Shredder, 80 guitars? Holy smoke.

It depends on the year - if I'm remembering correctly my 2004 Silo Special had a black finished block (probably zinc) but I'm not 100% sure. The 2004 SUB1 I got in a trade last year definitely had the black block. However, the 2006 AL and the 2007 Silo Special definitely had a brass block so at some point they switched to brass.

The mysterious black block, dug up from the jungle swamp of Mojo.

Thanks, John.

My 2000 Silo Spec is Steel (I think, since it's magnetic), and the 2008 Silo Spec (both of them) are brass. There's a notiable difference in acoustic tone as the brass seems to have a bit more highs. I like the steel block on my 2000 white Silo Spec though... It's got a lot of mids that I find the brass ones don't seem to have. (that's assuming that tonal difference is attributed to the block)

either way, the sustain blocks EBMM uses is top notch, as the natural sustain of all my balls is phenomenal, compared to many other guitars I had and played.
