hello,
i was at a southside johnny gig the other night, and the guitar player (bobby bandiera) was playing a yamaha gretch-a-like, but his back up (which i didn't have anything like a decent view of) turned out to be a music man. i asked on the ssj message board knew what the exact guitars were and some guy sent me this pic of the music man. i've tried the EBMM site, but i can't find this particular model. it say 'axis sport' on the headstock-i can only find 'super' sport's, and the pickup configuration is different. maybe it's an old model or something...? i'm going to keep looking, but i thought i'd ask you guys, as you really seem to know your stuff on here! any/all info gratefully received! here's the pic-sorry if it's not very good!

That's indeed an Axis Sport model and they are indeed discontinued...

I believe they came in HH, HSS and SSS configurations...

They do come up on e-bay every once in a while, so if you're looking for one, that's the place to go!

For your viewing pleasure, here's mine:

Welcome to this fine place, wullybee !

The guitar you are showing us is a discontinued model.
It is indeed an "Axis Sport" model, a sort of rare H/S/S version featuring a light ash body. It has apparently been modified with Seymour Duncan mini-humbuckers which I imagine is a quite cool mod.

I have one of those Axis Sport guitars, too, but mine is non-pickguard version with 2 MM90 (EBMM version of a P90) pickups. Same body and neck materials and a hell of a player !

Cheers mate and stick around !

Axel

P.S.: TwAn -> What a show-off ;o))))))

P.P.S.: There actually are still some of those models in stock at Royal-Music in New York !

wow

hey, you guys are pretty quick! thanks for your replies. the show i was at, he never played the music man at all, so sadly i can't vouch for the sound of the guitar after the modification... he played the yamaha (aex-502) all night which i must say sounded pretty awesome! southside did ask him to play the other guitar at one point, but bobby didn't seem keen-mumbled something about it not staying in tune as well as the yamaha...? although i'm informed that he played it quite a bit at an earlier london show. i'm definately going to have a look for these axis sport's on ebay, and check out the user reviews on harmony central...

thanks for the info and the welcome, guys! very much appreciated!

I have never heard, read or seen anybody with an EBMM Axis Sport complain about the guitar not staying in tune...
I have one Super Sport with the vintage trem and a Sport with a hardtail. Both feature the Schaller locking tuners and I really wonder what one would have to do to actually bring THAT outa tune... :confused:

STRANGE ! ! !
