I expect Raz to come jumping in here any moment! :p

I just got back from test riding one of these gorgeous baby's again. I wasn't there that long, but long enough to be missing a good number of layers of skin from my finger tips!! Ouch! Feels great! It's been a long time.

Of course, EBMM has the best necks in the world!!!! It's amazing how much better of a player I can be since it is so easy to play!

Anyways,

(1) Since the Sub doesn't come standard with an EBMM hard case, can they be purchased separately? or can I only get one bye the normal way of buying one of the other guitars?

(2) What size strings does the Sub come setup with? Are they 10's?

(3) The reason I ask about the strings is, out of the few times I've tried the Subs, I find the sound of the pickups to be a little muddy. I'm looking for a little more clarity. Now I don't expect it to sound like a Silo, Pet, etc.. since it is half the price. It could also be that the target market for this guitar is the younger crowd. This guitar would be awesome for nu-metal which I'm not into. If it's just the way the pickups are then well move on. I'm not into the mod thing.
My needs are very diverse but basically more strat-y on the cleans.
If the strings are stock 10's then maybe 9's would give me more of what I need?

Most of you know that my end goal is the Silo., but it would be nice to get a Sub 1 while I wait if I can get it to do more of what I want!

Fogmeister...as for the case, buy one on Ebay...any case will work. Fendrrrs, Peevies (Wolfies)
Strat/Tele Case

Sub's come stock with 9's, I changed mine to 10's.

You probably got a muddy tone due to pup height, in fact I'll bet me arse on it...cause I don't get nothing but clarity (I promise clips coming). A simple adjustment and you'll see, plus other factors may contribute, amp, dead and dirty strings, etc. TRUST ME...

I tried it with about 4 or 5 different amps. Mind you they were all Marshalls and F**ders. I was able to get a slight variance of sound. But some of the amps had so much effects garb., it was quite annoying trying to figure out what 50 people before had set them at!?
I just found the sound laked any soul. It wasn't thick and it wasn't thin! Just boringly in the middle. No Umpfh! and No Zing! I tried some other guitars Like some Godins and an Ibanez and they had it???
You're probably right about the pup height. I adjusted them on my daughters cheapo guitar, and lowered the action and it made a huge difference.
There's another shop with a couple of Subs that I'll go and try theirs this week to see.
I do know when I tried the Silos, they sing!!! :D

Well I'll be honest, I liked the tone of my SUB 1 more than my Silo H-S-S, only because the Silo was more of a vintage tone...I found I could do both clean and dirty with the Sub, however I had trouble getting dirty with my Silo

I promise, clean tones for you via the SUB 1 this weekend...I promise, nothin fancy

Oh about the amps when I tried my PEt there was a Mesa there and it sounded like horse turd...sorry, but that;s how it is sometimes...

Your Silo was a Silhouette Special which is more "classis" or "vintage" sounding.
I'd be buying the Silhouette with the H-S-H combination. Very different let me tell you!! I think you'd like it for the type of music that you play and listen to.

Play old Macdonald or Mary Had a Little Lamb if you want! I don't care. It's much better hearing a guitar when someone else plays it. Do me a favour if you don't mind. Don't over Tonelab it. I just need to hear the basics.
(p.s. - Mary Had a Little Lamb by SRV) ;)

Hey, I've already heard you play on your old sound clips!
Don't worry. I haven't played in over 10 years! Even then I sucked. :D
Anything is better than me.
Just play a few chords, scales, bend some strings, whatever. ;)

Fogman,

I am surprised to read this. Perhaps the guitar was setup poorly? I tried a SUB1 through a Marshall JCM2000 DSL (playing mostly clean) and I was stunned by how great it sounded. In fact, I was really getting into twanging around on it 'cause it *was* very soulful. The only thing that kept me from buying it was that I want to try a Silo and Y2D at the Open House.. and I'll probably order one of those instead. I figured by not buying the SUB I was $500 closer to that goal. I may sell my backup guitar and buy that SUB, though.. anyone want an Ibby S370 in deep violet flat? ;)

I am going to have to try some more Subs at some other dealers just for the curiosity if anything. They are really cool guitars! :)
