Hi everybody!

As many of you know, I'm a huge Morse fan. My quest for tone led me to a great MarkV. Very happy with it. But there's some range I can't quite cover with it...

I have some spare money and was thinking about buying a Morse ENGL Head. I can always sell it back if I don't like it.

However, I've found close to zero reviews of it. If it has the Morse label on it, then its enough, BUT, it is always great to read and hear reviews of fellow knuckelheads about gear...

If someone has tried both the ENGL and the Boogie, better yet!

Thanks in advance!

Check out ENGL TV on youtube or directly through their website. Martin Miller actually does a demo of the Morse amp. He is an absolutely amazing player by the way. I have not played one myself but would love to. I think ENGL makes some of the best amps out there in terms of features and tonal qualities!

Not experienced the Morse except at Steve's concerts & amp sounds awesome. Steve is well known for being very fussy about his tone so don't doubt this beast can get you wherever you need. Engl seem to have a reputation as only for high gain thrash metal but that is not the case & very unfair. I have an Engl E650 100w (Blackmore) & all the channels are capable of being very articulate but plenty of dirt if you need it.
Tommy on here (Steve's guitar tech) mentioned that Steve plays his acoustic through the Engl SM clean channel when playing classical live which speaks volumes for the amps versatility. No way would I have expected that.
The Engl TV channel is very good & worth watching.
Good luck in your hunt for an amp & keep us posted on what you end up trying & buying
Cheers Baz

Not sure if he still has it, but Pete Dubaldo has/had a Morse/Engl amp head SIGNED BY STEVE!

Might check with him if that interests you. ;)

I was amp shopping back in 2010.
I tried out Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Orange, Fender, ENGL, etc ....

At one point I had a Mesa Boogie Mark-V and Roadster, and an ENGL Steve Morse at my house for testing (The wife was not a happy camper).

The ENGL won by a landslide. Better cleans, tighter distortion, more articulate, and just all around more musical and WAY more versatile.

So here is the rest of the story ... I had the Steve Morse for a few months, but never bonded with the way the Lead channel worked. The whole 2 mid controls and being able to switch between 2 settings. But I really love the tone of the amp, so I went and tried out an ENGL InVader which is the amp that was the starting point for the ENGL Morse. Apparently the ENGL Morse and InVader share the same Ch1 and Ch2. but the Morse has a custom Ch3 and the InVader has 2 high gain channels. I heard Steve was using an ENGL InVader for a while, not sure how long or in what capacity. I instantly loved the InVader and really liked having the 2 High Gain channels that the Morse did not offer.

I still have the InVader and have used it live and in the studio. It is hands down the best amp I have ever owned.

So ... If you have the money to try out the ENGL Morse, then I would highly suggest doing it. It will have an extremely different voicing than the Mark-V and I think you will love it if you're a huge Steve Morse fan. The only problem I see is you liking the ENGL better and in the end selling your Mark-V
