"Mountain Time" is Guitar Time (2012 PDN Y2D Content)

This thread is overdue. A couple of guitars have arrived here at our house, and I haven’t shared the news. So, here goes.

One of my favorite guitar players these days is Joe Bonamassa. His live version of his song “Mountain Time” from his performance at the Royal Albert Hall has become one of my favorite songs. A couple of years ago, I introduced my fiancée to that song by sending her a link to a YouTube video of that performance. Late one night, she asked me for a music recommendation. I sent her that link. That song had a pivotal role in the development of our friendship and our subsequent relationship. She said that after I sent her that link late that night, she played it over and over again. I have heard her say that she listened to that song seventeen straight times that night. A quick estimate indicates that she listened to that song non-stop for about three hours! She says that after hearing that song, she felt I knew what I was “doing.” What she means is that she felt that she knew then that I was someone whose taste she could both trust and respect. We discovered later that we appreciated the same magic in music. We appreciated many of the same things. We liked many of the same artists. We were able to introduce each other to music that we both could like. She got me to like The Allman Brothers and some other things. I got her to like Steve Morse, Andy Timmons, Dream Theater, and Joe Bonamassa. We have enjoyed some great shows together: Dream Theater twice, Joe Bonamassa twice, The Allman Brothers live at the Beacon Theatre, and some local artists. Since I sent that YouTube link to her, we have found that we see the same magic in so many other things, including a lot of beautiful food. Now, we are planning to spend our lives together.

Many people have a song that’s special in their relationship. She and I don’t have one special song. We say that we have a soundtrack. That soundtrack happens to feature “Mountain Time” very prominently. Of course, we love Joe Bonamassa for his talent. We, as a couple, also love Joe Bonamassa for what this song means to us, for what his music has meant to our relationship. If Joe weren’t playing a show on the night of our wedding, we’d invite him!

Joe’s music—but “Mountain Time” in particular—has inspired me to make some purchases over the past couple years. Some are gear purchases. Some are guitar purchases. I got a Les Paul. I am fortunate enough to have a 25th Anniversary EBMM with a rosewood fingerboard, which is similar to the guitar JB used on his Royal Albert Hall recording of “Mountain Time.” I also picked up a Darklord Y2D, which is what JB used on his Beacon Theatre recording of “Mountain Time.” I saw the 2012 PDN Y2D as something of a hybrid between Joe’s usual choice of a Les Paul and his more recent choice of guitar for “Mountain Time,” the Darklord Y2D. When the PDN Y2D was announced, I couldn’t resist. To prove they exist, here are some pictures of my collection of EBMM JB/”Mountain Time” guitars. I hope you like them.

You drive West on 80 and it won’t take too long,
‘Til the road starts climbing up to mountain time.
There’s a girl I know there, she lives free and easy,
And she shows me wonders and she takes my mind.

And she’s wild as eagles,
She’s as sweet as honeysuckle,
Her life’s flowing like a mountain stream.
And she takes me somewhere,
And it’s good to be there,
And she pulls me into her bright golden wing.

Congrats and a great story Rob. Nothing like finding the right one and sharing similar interest especially in music which is such a powerful and emotional force. Kind of corny but I met my wife at 13 went out with her at 15 and have been together ever since which has been a 35 year relationship. I am almost embarressed to admit our song was and still is I Like Dreaming by Kenny Nolan, though there have been times I thought of changing it to I Used To Love Her by G&R's lmfao.
