guys,
im just wondering

im sure many of you bring more than 1 bass on your gig or worship session ..
my question is... when you are changing your basses between songs, do you just unplug bass #1 and plug into bass #2? or do you have a kind of a/b box so that you can readily plug the 2 basses already? or .. is there any other alternatives too?

thanks

the planet waves circuit breaker cable has proved useful to me. just push the button, unplug, plug, push button. noiseless changing of bass. :)

I never really change durin the set but when I do change, I pull the chord from the amp but not all the way out, just enough for the connection to break then unplug the bass. Just a poor mans way of getting around not having a mute button or AB Box.

Boss TU footpedal tuner... a wonderful gadget :D for live stuff, in the studio.... uh... just make sure the engineer's got you muted, there's nothing that quite compares to the engineer and studio owner looking at ya when you've just unplugged without muting and the board is up nice and loud and the Genelec's give a nice crrvajnfnaonrgatnav[kam[v kind of a sound

LOL :D

I make my living as a soundman and can assure you, you don't get a big + in the book by unplugging without muting or tellng :p

I also use a tuner, korg DT-10, wich has an output that's muted when you tune your instrument.

- turn on tuner - switch bass - check tuning on new bass - turn off tuner - start playing

Good ideas about using the tuner.. my StroboStomp mutes when you stomp the pedal, too.

I am eternally screaming at my bass player for unplugging his bass while his rig is fully audible. I'm one of those who *always* throws the amp into standby before unplugging.

Now that you mention it, I'm always lecturing my singer about plugging and unplugging mic cables from our Mackie mixing board without muting the channel first... I should start playing with some guys who have the sense they were born with, eh? ;)

Ernie Ball also sells cables with a "silent" plug on one end that is pretty handy. It has a button that when depressed (unplugged from the guitar's jack) silences the plug. No muss , no fuss. Check it out.

:D I expirienced that in the past. But the soundman is still a friend of mine

You can get them from anyone handling EB cables and accessories. If you want one shipped to you , let me know I have a 20 footer in stock. :)

I use an A/B switch. Mine was custom made by a fellow bass player. Simple box with two inputs, one output, a stomp switch and two lights. The cool thing on this one is that it's passive, so I don't have to worry about a battery. It does take a 9v or AC adapter (which I use), but that is just for the lights.

Another nice way to handle two basses is the Radial Bassbone. It has two inputs, and two EQ settings. This is good if you want to EQ your basses slightly different or want to balance the levels. It also has an EQ loop and tuner output.

My signal path goes: A/B box >> Strobostomp >> MXR 80 DI >> various effects (chorus, octaver, akai deep impact) >> Amp

Cracks me up that some people are too lazy to walk back to their amp & hit the mute switch. Let's spend more money on gadgets to promote our laziness. Geez!
