so some of the best music (or most addicting at least) is from Mario--- RIGHT??! its classic pop culture, so the hollywood bowl is putting on video game live in september, they have an orchestra doing gaming music! its gonna be awesome you guys should check it out.

You gotta love the tunes Petrucci did way back for that sega saturn game Necronomicon or whatever the hell it was.

I play more RPG games, some of the music from the Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Lunar series is just awesome. I wish I hadn't lost the mp3 I recorded of me playing the Mega Man 3 theme song a few years ago. I am going to have to go back and learn it again and record it.

Yea dude, Mega Man had to be my favorite game when I was a kid. I am going to try to learn that damn song again, and hopefully I will be able to post it on here.

One of the fun things I try to play whenever I wank around on bass is the "Underworld BGM" from Super Mario. Fun slap line! :D

haha nice, it is amazing how fun some of these songs are to actually play, my friend loves playing the tetris theme on his guitar but i think that is a pretty common one

Still the best when it comes to vid game music on guitar...

Has anyone checked out some of the great Video Game music themed bands like The Minibosses or The Black Wizards? I'm sure most people have heard the Zelda theme cover that was attributed to System of a Down (who later killed this rumor).

I get excited when I hear about musicians working with video game designers to create great sound tracks.

I can't make the Videogames Live tomorrow, but I wish I could.

Saying that was not SOAD? I would have sworn it was...

Yeah I read an article where they gave the song some praise, but said it wasn't their cover. Too bad it was a pretty good cover. The SOAD impression was dead on too.

This is old news, but Steve Vai is the guitarist all over the Halo 2 music. I remember playing the game and thinking, "man that guy is ripping".

I always thought the music in the Castlevania games was astounding! Especially the soundtrack to symphony of the night on playstation. :D

You are right. The Castlevania music from all the games especially Castlevania 3 and the Symphony of the Night game on the Playstation are really cool. Come to think of it, most Konami games had good backing tracks to their games (ex. Contra and Super Contra, Gradius)

Vai and Satriani also did the music for Formula 1 97 on the Playstation by Bizarre Creations, makers of the Project Gotham games.

Best game music still has to be Harry Gregson Williams interpretation of Metal Gear Solid from the 2nd game. That initial trailer made the game seem so exciting in 2000. Shame it turned out to be so bland after that...

Vai did some awesome work on the Halo 2 soundtrack. I think there's a video floating around on youtube with him performing it live.
