Music Man and OLP body differences

I have a chance to purchase what is being sold as a Music Man Luke model. I have a strong feeling that maybe the neck was changed to a Music Man, although the body is a OLP.

What should I look for as a definite identifier for the Music Man body vs. OLP?
Is there something that I can tell which body it is for sure? Thanks!

Well the bridge should say OLP instead of Music Man, and the pickups don't say EMG like on the Music Man version. I think the only colors the OLP came in were red and luke blue, but I could be wrong.

Not even sure if the neck would fit on an OLP body.

The only colors it came in was pearl blue and pearl red. OLP bridge.

Not sure about the luke specifically, but every OLP I've seen has had a 4 bolt neck joint and a weird neck plate that looks like a cut down version of a standard strat type plate. It's wider and shorter than a real EB plate. Putting a real EB neck on an OLP body would take some real modification to the heel, so that would be a good place to start looking.

If you don't mind me asking, what makes you think the body is an OLP?

Based on the OLP's I've played, I would be surprised if an EBMM neck would fit perfectly on an OLP body. But I could be wrong...

Thanks to all who replied! I think collectively you've answered my question. The guy I am considering buying it from mentioned that he had to have the neck changed due to an "overdressed fret". I've seen strats that have had neck changes from an inferior model before. I just wondered if people are doing the same with Music Man/OLP guitars. Any advice on a slightly used Music Man LUKE model for $1000? It looks real nice and I really want a quality guitar. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I would say that $1000 is fair. Not a 'steal' but definitely a decent price especially if it truly is in good condition.

LOL. This is my guitar you're talking about. The black Luke 2 in my sig. I've debated about posting it here since I live far off in Hawaii and shipping is expensive and a pain.

It wasn't an "over dressed fret". The entire neck had the high "e" side of the fretboard over dressed, which means it had too much of a curve to the edge. The high "e" string would slip off the fingerboard because of it. At first EBMM was going to redo the frets but they decided instead just replace the neck.

I highly doubt an OLP body and a real EBMM neck would ever fit together because of the sculpted neck heel and the 5 bolt design. MAYBE a Sterling by EBMM might work, but Sterling does not make a Luke model.

Thanks again to all! You have all helped answer my questions. You never know what you're getting on craigslist, so I thought I'd do all my homework. As far as the owner of this axe, you may consider putting on ebay as local bids only(with a reserve price). I've done that before and it worked out very well. It doesn't seem as though you are in a rush to sell it so I would think eventually the craigslist posting may work out. At $1000, it starts getting somewhat near a new Luke ($1575 at Dan's Guitars with a complete setup and a free re-adjustment when I change to a new set of strings). Due to the humidity in Hawaii, guitars take a little while to settle into our climate. One more paycheck would get me a new one, so I think that's the way to go. There's nothing as special as owning a brand new axe, especially with the quality of a EBMM. I hope no offense was taken, I just wanted to be sure of what I was getting. I would not have known the versatility of the Luke model if it wasn't for your post that sparked my research on this model. For that, Mahalo Nui and Aloha!
