Hi everybody,
I am new here, and I bought a Music Man Axis about a year ago from a local Guitar Center.
This guitar was being cleared out for a broken truss rod with out a case and without the back plate that covers the back of the tremolo, but other wise in perfect condition...I mean not a mark or even a smudge on it. The price you might ask..$400.00. It sat there for about 2 weeks as I wrestled with the idea of buying damaged merchandise. I plugged it in and played it. I instantly fell in love with it. The neck was straight, the action was like butter and the sound was awesome. So I figured at worst it was what i would call wall art. Absolutely stunning looking. Before I bought it I called Ernie Ball and asked if it would be covered under warranty since the guitar was "new" but defective. They said no because I am buying it at a discounted price and I knew it was bad, but they also never heard of a truss rod going bad on a new guitar. The geniuses at Guitar Center wisked her off into the back room to verify if the neck would adjust. They never atempted that in front of me. Then they told me that I shouldn't buy it. So I was suspicious, and I don't like being told what to and not to buy.
So I bought her. I order the back plate, I bought an official Music Man Case, and I hung her on my wall with my other guitars. Played her on and off and enjoyed playing her.
After 6 months I got curious So I took her down and began to turn the dial/wheek on the truss rod. Mind you I have no idea what I am doing. I turned it all the way to one side. I didn't notice it at first but then I saw the neck was bowed. I then paniced and turned it back all the way and she went back to normal. I am no guitar technician but that seems to me that the truss rod adjusted. I will now bring her into Sam Ash and have their guitar tech take a look at her.
Ok on with the stayining in tune. So I tune the guitar, lock it down , fine tune it and play. It stays in tune for the most part with minor adjustments here and there nothing drastic. But when I put her away and the take her out again she sometimes is in tune, and sometimes is out of tune. I never really noticed it that bad until I took her outside to take pictures. I took her out of the case and she was way out of tune. So bad I had to unlock her and retune. Could that be caused by humidity change?
The neck looks straight to me...I love this guitar, and I have no problem just letting her hang on my wall as art. I am just really curious...what you guys think?
