My Bongo was stolen last Thursday, and I have no record of the serial numbers because the laptop I had them on was stolen with it (yay for having that one planned out well, criminals.)

But anyways. I bought it from bovinehost nearly 4 years ago (February 2006) on talkbass, it's the desert gold 4 bongo HH 4 string on his site, and I could post pictures of me with it. I've e-mailed him hoping that he somehow has the serial numbers, but either way... :

is there much that can be done about this? what should I do to try to find it? The cops said they'd check the pawn shops, but they haven't called me at all so... I'm not optimistic at this point.

Man, I'm sorry to tell you this - I just went through every photo I have of that bass and I don't have a single shot of the backside with the serial number on it.

But check your local pawn shops and craigslist and keep an eye out on eBay. (We of course will watch for it here although the odds are WAY low on that.)

Usually the criminals are not bassists and are looking to turn such things into cash (and then into drugs) so they'll be looking to sell it.

Bastards. Don't get me started on thieves. Grrrr.

I'll be on the lookout on craiglist and ebay.

However, if we see it what is the next step. I mean, do you contact local police on this?

Best of luck getting it back.

Sorry you are going through this man. I have been through three stolen basses in my lifetime along with one consignment that went seriously bad. I feel for you.

It might be serial F07663.

But there's no note of who that belonged to, so I don't know. Time and configuration is right, though.

This one was originally sold to Bass Northwest in Seattle, WA. It was done on 10/9/03.

Was it ever registered on our site? I may be able to look for the s/n that way...

If you can afford to, offer a reward and post on your local craigslist.

Aziah, that must be it. I've checked my notes and the guy I bought it from did buy it from Bass NW. I think we have the serial number.

I have a suggestion, I have done something similar on facebook related to stolen motorcycles, basically I have opened an FB group where people who had their bikes stolen registers in the group and give full descriptions of the motorcycle, the frame number, the colour, the place in which it was stolen and any recognizable add on parts such as carbon exhausts, ohlin's forks etc etc. That way anyone on facebook who is being offered a stolen bike or in this case a stolen bass will know the serial number, the colour and more or less the town in which it went missing.

Any of these methods should be a deterrant for thieves to be able to resell these on ebay or other places.
