Metal Man....very cool you want to build you own guitar. The "measurement" thing has been discussed so I won't beat the dead horse.

There is a forum member here named Cudbucket. He built his own guitar and it is killer. He is really good at this sort of thing and he could possibly help you out with any questions. I haven't seen him here lately....CUD...where you at bro? I am not saying he has these measurements...as his guitar was built different. But, he certainly did a great job for his first time at it. PM him and I will drop him an e-mail to let him know.

Also...check out the Sterling by Musicman line as mentioned earlier. You could get one of those and still make the custom and have the best of both worlds.

Dude, nice, you using Catia V5 R18?

Yep, that's exactly it.

Thanks for all of your input guys, and BP I do appreciate the fact that you encouraged me do built it, making sure not to run into any legal issues.

The fact that it's not going to be good enough, and such...well...i have to disagree on that...Yes, it won't be a Music Man. But, with the right tools and patience i still think i can beat a Sterling (no offense).

Besides, i'll be buying the fingerboard already radiused from Stewmac, wich kinda helps a lot.

The rest, will be done with a CNC machine, with the exception of the neck shape, and body shape that will be handmade.

So with all of this, i hope that some of you maybe go and do a research on DIY guitars, wich is a VERY nice hobby/addiction.

Cheers, and BTW...Music Man still is the #1 in my book...

I don't want to be offensive, but if you're so skilled with the design program, why not give your guitar a unique shape and make it YOUR signature guitar instead of some JP lookalike?

If Dudley and many other modern day geniuses didnt start by DIY where would we be...

I would love to see your second effort be original! Have a blast

great attitude. other ceo´s maybe would be an a$$ if someone asks for building one of their instruments himself.

I've tried to build a replica EBMM before. After I spent a load of money on it, I actually figured out that I could buy a used EBMM for less money. I scrapped that idea quickly.

but, I digress. Go for it, but definitely make it your own. Don't feel you have to copy every contour, rout, and hole. go for an upside down headstock, make it an archtop.

Thanks guys for all your intput.

Yesterday i slept on it, and you guys made me rethink my endeavor...

I'm still doing a guitar, however i decided to customize it to my taste.

The reversed headstock is most definetly something i'm going for, unless BP as something against it...

To be honest what made change of mind, wasn't any of the " do something yours and don't copy other's work" comments...

I was blown away by the down to earth, extremely nice attitude of a CEO!!! yikes! That's what made me change of mind...

Thanks!

i'll revise my design, and once i have any news i'll post revised pictures

Cheers

Cool man. I hit up Cudbucket and he said he would drop by and if you need any advice/help he would answer questions.

I would love to see what you come up with. Once you start...take a ton of pics as you progress....good luck bro.

that's awesome Metal. I thought this thread was going to get bad really quick and get shut down, but I was wrong. I'm glad this is having a happy ending. I look forward to seeing your new design.

Not that I have any legal knowledge.......but a reverse headstock is the same as a left handed headstock, and I assume I could not market my own range of lefty EBMM alikes (not that I have any expertise or plans to do so!!)
Does the "protection" on the 4+2 designe only work in the USA?
Just idle questions on a dull day, I really am not planning a global takeover of the guitar business!
