I just received a beautiful Bongo 4HH from Musicman Nut. The serial number is: F08276

Can you tell me the specs on this bass? (i.e., color, dob, etc.)

Thanks,

Fred

Hello,

I just acquired my first Music Man, a gorgeous Bongo 5HH. Serial number is F22326. I would appreciate any info you can give me about it. Thanks!

Steve-O - Congratulations on your new Bongo 5 and welcome to the Forum.
Your bass looks a lot like one of mine :D - It was completed on 9/23/08 and shipped to Express Music in Seminole. Florida. The finish is Lava Pearl.

Hello Dan,
I just bought another Sterling and is listed in Gav's serial number thread.
40722...1 June 1994. Sunburst (older Honeyburst) with Maple. Black pg
It's got an amazing birds eye neck and looks like a Flea bridge. Can you tell me where this orginally shipped to?
Thanks again for your time.
Frank

Frank, cool, your Sterling was originally shipped to American Music in Seattle, WA.

Stingray 5

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your quick answer.

Could you tell me anythink about woods used, pickguard and pickup cover color? Pickup seems different than the one on my stingray 4, excepted size of course. Is it normal?
The neck seems to be birds eyes, not varnished but oiled. Is it correct?

Thanks in advance for every pieces of information you can give me.

Bye.

Amazo, welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new Honeyburst StingRay! Your new (at least to you) bass was completed on May 08 2001 and was sent to the U.K.

Thanks for the swift response and welcome. Great service!
I've just got to sort out a couple of technical issues with it and then ready to rock!

Renaud, sure, I will tell you all that I know ... The body is Southern ash, the neck is maple and the fretboard is rosewood. Yes, in those days we used a lot of birdseye maple as it was fairly plentiful. It is harder to find and more expensive nowadays so we don't use it on the basses.

The neck is treated the way we have been doing it since 1991 - with a blend of gunstock oil and wax.

The electronics are intentionally different from the StingRay - the polepieces on the StingRay 5 are made from ceramic, vs. alnico for its 4-string counterpart. The pickup shape is different, yes, the StingRay 5 has a "soapbar" shape with no "dog ears" like on the StingRay 4.

Just for the record, the StingRay 5 was always intended to be a little bit more than just the StingRay with an extra string. We added these extra things to make it an instrument all its own. ;)

Thanks 5Stringer.
The technical issues I refer to are: When i got the instrument there was a lot of crackling and general electrical 'noise' popping etc when I plugged in. I changed battery and used an electrical cleaner on the pots. The crackling has stopped but the tone.treble and bass controls make no difference to the sound of the note being played. The volume control works but is not as incremental as I thought. It no where near compares to a different bass I tried in a local music shop.
I wondered if the pre amp needs attention.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hello 5Stringer !
We have a little EBMM internet fanclub in Russia(Ukraine, Belarus and other ex-USSR countries). A lot of people are asking me to find out any info about their basses. So, I would post serials from time to time asking you about DOB and colors. Is it OK?
p.s. so, here's the first serial - Е54136

Amazo, it appears to me as if your preamp is not working - either because it is not getting power (for a variety of reasons), or the IC chip and/or another part on the circuit board is bad. Please contact me at 866/823-2255 or 805-544-7726 or email me at [email protected] so we can work on getting this resolved for you.

Thanks for the info, Dan. I've wanted a Music Man for a long time, and I couldn't ask for a finer example than this stunning Bongo. I'm a hopeless Bongoloid!

Not only does EBMM make excellent instruments, but their customer service not only meets but exceeds customers expectations.
Simply stellar!
