Todd...there were some White Sabres but they seem to be rare.

I'm gonna take a real close look at all the cavaties, but it looks to be an original white finish from what I've seen - I just didn't realize that was available.

So, I may have one of the rare white '79 Sabres - that someone completely stripped

help with a serial number

hi this is my first time posting, so I hope you dont mind if I ask some stupid questions.

I have been offered a musicman bass which has the serial number B025020 the guy says it is from the 80s and is pre ernie ball. Could someone let me know if this is the correct date? It is a tobacco sunburst colour.

Hi, welcome to the Forum.

>>>I have been offered a musicman bass which has the serial number B025020 the guy says it is from the 80s and is pre ernie ball. Could someone let me know if this is the correct date?

"B" serials were also used on some Ernie Ball Basses when they started making them in 1985 and examples can be found up to 1988. Although some 1985 EB Basses don't have "Ernie Ball" on the headstock logo, they can be distinguished from the Pre-EB in that the string retainer is located on the A and D strings. Pre-EB had the retainer on the D and G strings.

Another way to tell the difference between Pre-EB and EB is to take a close look at the body. Pre-EB have slab bodies. The EBs have the waist contour on the back of the body.

However, your serial is consistent with a Pre-EB Bass and my guess is circa 1982.

Welcome to the Forum Dan!!

Your bass was born on 2/05/92, so you have a birthday coming up soon ;)

Glad to have you around here
:D
Aziah

hey I was wondering if that date is wrong. I looked it up on the other serial forum and looks likes 1990 or so.

Just wondering

Dumb question

Here's a dumb question. Ive had my Musicman Stingray 5 string for ages and wanted to get an idea of its age etc but im stuffed if I can find the serial number! I know its pretty old and its a custom one as well (Orange Burst)

So dumb question is - where do I find the serial number? There's a neckplate and a battery cover on the back but there's no numbers on 'em.

Help...

Bassnerd. If the serial's not on the neck plate, then it will be on the bridge near the string saddles.

Ah there it is...

What can you tell me about 54411? there's no letters on it or anything...

Actually, while Im here - the neck doesn't seem to have any sort of finish - its almost as though its plain wood. Is there something i should be doing to it? ie rubbing some sort of oil on the thing or waxing it like a surf board?

Sterling (Redhot Edition?)

Hello everybody,

i have a sterling with the serial 47540.
It looks like the Redhot Edition (Limited edition for the Frankfurt Music Fair 1997). A dark purple an a white pearl pickgaurd.

Were there any Sterlings in the Redhot Edition or only Stingray's?

I add a photo.

Many greets from Germany,
Stefan

Hi Stefan.

I don't think so. Your serial indicates late 1995. Red Hot was 1997. Below is a Red Hot.
