Hi, I'm new to MM basses and it's a black SR4 with matching headstock and pickguard, all maple neck and single pickup w/3-band EQ. Serial#L03118, any info on DOB/history?

That moonstone guard is nice. Any other suggestions?

Cheers
Newf :D

Thanks for the DOB. :) Also, what was the body wood and where was it sent to? Probably Long & McQuade's but where, Regina?

Who's Regina? :p

Actually this bass was shipped to B Sharp Music in ... yes ... Regina, Saskatchewan (that's in Canada for all you non-North Americaners).

The body woods on all of Music Man basses at that time would almost certainly be (Southern) ash.

Cheers,

Dan

I'd like to say that offering this Bass Birthday Service is such a great, thoughtful idea. And all us knuckleheads truly appreciate the extra, little things. The icing on the EBMM cake makes it so much sweeter!
So now I will respectfully request a B-day for my brand new lady, which has a wonderful serial number...
(my lucky number is 52...or really any combinations of 2 and 5)

This VERY functional work of art is an unlined fretless 30th.
E55552

thanks in advance!

PocketGroove,

Your awesome 30th Anniversary StingRay was completed on 11/21/06 and of course sent to the boys of Bass Central, where, I am sure, is where you found it.

Cheers,

Dan

Music Man Sting Ray serial number "X00203"

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

As far as I know, the "X" Basses were prototypes. In any event, the "X" serials do exist. "X00205" is actually pictured in the 1976 Catalogue. They would have been made in 1976 or earlier. There'd be only a few of them. When the Sting Ray was actually released, the serial was prefixed with a "B" and not an "X".

I have seen pictures of a Bass with the serial number you mention (X00203). There was also a fair amount of discussion about it on this Forum approx 1 1/2 years ago concerning whether it was infact a proto or not and whether it was a genuine Sting Ray. From memory the question was left open. At the time, I think it was being auctioned on Ebay by a German seller.

Do you have a picture?

EDIT. The previous thread is:

SUB4 - X05065
Bongo 5 - F10685

I think the SUB was made in Nov 2003 and The Bongo in December 2004, but I am unsure.

Can anyone out there help?

You are almost right on with the dates:

SUB4 - X05065 11/26/03
Bongo 5 - F1068510/06/04

Wow! What a great site. Thanks for the quick response, Aziah.

I just picked up bass again literally a month ago after a long hiatus of almost 12 years (damned kids are expensive). I was a Fender guy and also liked my Gibson G3 but now I am completely sold on Music Man. My recently purchased used SUB brought me over to the dark side. Taking the Bongo 5 out for a spin killed me today as I HAD to have it immediately after hearing the tone out of even a crappy Traynor amp!

Definately looking forward to start gigging again with these basses.

Thanks!

My Sting Ray it is very similar on that about which you have mentioned, it is surprising at them even identical serial numbers even!

Notice, at them identical inscriptions on neck, iron plates are equally placed, pickups identical color, e.t.c
