Hi Derek. I recently acquired SR5 #54307, which appears to be a 1993 or 1994 production. It's not in your database yet.

It's black, maple, black pg. Just as a 'Ray should be!

It needs a new set of pots, though. I either can't feel the centers, they are creaky, or both. I've sent an email to MM customer service to see if they can supply or recommend a source for replacements. Any other advice?

Hey Dan,

could you give me please anything you have on B027019. My guess (after some investigation) it that she's born in '88. However, any and all info also regarding to the woods used and other historic specialties around that time is appreciated greatly.

Thanks

oli, you are probably right on the date, unforfortunately our records on the early EBMM StingRays is sadly lacking, as in nonexistent - :( I gather you have already checked Gav's website?

As far as woods, though, it was mostly based on finish color. Solid colors, Blueburst, and VSB were Poplar. Trans Red was Alder, and the rest of the translucent finishes were Ash.

Hey,

I would really like to know the date my bass was finished, the serial number is E42329.
Could you please give me any data you have about this bass?

Thanks in advance!

Zegik, sure .. the StingRay 5 HH in 2007 Limited Edition Blue Dawn with a rosewood fretboard was completed on May 17 2007 and was shipped to the Netherlands.

Hi Dan, thanks! I checked Gav's site and came up with dating the year as '88 from the info I found there.

It's a black body unlined fretless. I'd love to know whether fretless fretboards made around then were Pau Ferro or Rosewood.

WJ, your recently acquired StingRay was built on 11/19/93.

Regarding the center detente on the pots - here's what to do:

1. Remove the knobs from the tone pots.
2. With just the shafts exposed, turn the tone pots until you reach the center detente.
3. Replace the knobs.
4. That should work.

;)

Zak, I don't know either, but in any event - this baby was built on 10/16/01. It is a StingRay in Autumn Red Sunrise with a maple fretboard. Sent to Guitar Center #112 in San Diego, CA.

Cheers,

Dan

Nah, this is one of the fun parts of my job! I never get tired of it! But could you check that serial number again? I know the ones on the bridge are harder to see ... but that number is showing as a Pearl Blue Maple Sterling ... but it does show it being shipped to the U.K. at least, and built on March 13th 1997.

It wouldn't have been unheard of for someone to have swapped the necks, as at that time we were some 12 months backordered, so waiting for the proper one was difficult.
