Nah, this is one of the fun parts of my job! I never get tired of it! But could you check that serial number again? I know the ones on the bridge are harder to see ... but that number is showing as a Pearl Blue Maple Sterling ... but it does show it being shipped to the U.K. at least, and built on March 13th 1997.

It wouldn't have been unheard of for someone to have swapped the necks, as at that time we were some 12 months backordered, so waiting for the proper one was difficult.

Dan

Thanks for that, Dan.

I've checked the serial no. and I definately got it right! I checked the fretboard too and it's definately rosewood!!! It's a beautiful bass, but I suppose someone (UK distributor?) must have swapped the necks round. Does that mean that somewhere there's another Sterling with my neck on?!

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

M Sterling's Serial number is D 08408. It's a black on black 4-string.

Thanks,

Hi Dan,

got another SR5 with the serial E07276.
I'm really curious what that database knows about
that one.

TIA

Hey Baird, sorry, I was apparently derelict of duty on these ... didn't mean to ignore ya!

Hi, Any info on F08250 would be appreciated!

your 20th Anniversary SR5 was completed on 4/04/07 and shipped to Long & McQuade in Canada.

Also, please let me know when E35018 was made. This is a 30th and the above is a 20th SR5.

Your 30th was built on 5/18/06 and was shipped to Guitar Center.

Cheers,

Dan

Dan, I have a question about 30th Ann. Stingray's ser#. I have noticed that it seems that all the ones built in April 06 start with E35xxx. Then later they shift to E55xxx. Is there a story behind this? Like the first 100 made or something. Just curious, since mine was one of the April built ones.

Thanks,

Kai,

Here's what I can tell you: This serial number refers to a StingRay 5 in Black finish with an unlined fretless neck that was completed on March 22, 1999 and was shipped to Germany.

Nice find!

that's a good question - the first 60 or so had the serial numbers starting with E35... then the numbers for no good reason spring up to E55... there is no reason for it other than I think we wanted to clear out some older neckplates .... :p

As long as I've been here, I've never posted in this thread.

I would like the birthdays for:

F09966

F13276

E61443

I purchased both of my Bongos from Willie's American Guitars in St Paul,MN. In fact, my Candy Red fiver may be first Bongo to arrive in Minnesota according to the guys at Willie's.
