Okay, I'm in.

Just fulfilled a long time yearning for a StingRay. Brand new beauty numbered E65270. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Nice bass- this Trans Orange beauty was built on 3/05/08 and was sent to Imperial Guitar & Sound in Newburgh, NY. Congrats on your first StingRay!

Hello,

I just purchased a Sting Ray 4 with the Serial Number 42619. It has the serial number stamped on the Bridge instead of the neck plate. Any info regarding age or anything else for that matter would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks!
Rob K.

Rob,

Your StingRay in Sunburst (now referred to as Honeyburst) with a rosewood fretboard was built on 9/16/94 and was shipped to Sam Ash Music in Forest Hill, NY.

Nice ~

Hey Dan,

Many Thanks!!! Very interesting because the guy I bought it from said he bought it new in 2000 in California! Oh well, it's an amazing bass and I'm completely stoked that I got it!

Here she is looking pretty HOT for 14 year old:

Yes, it was built on 7/21/92 and was originally shipped to the legendary original Manny's Music of 48th Street fame in New York City.

hey Dan. I'd like to know the birthdate of E67776. Awesome bass; Graphite pearl, nonmatching headstock, HH with rosewood. :)

My Old Stingray...

Dan,

I have a really beat-up black Sting Ray (black pickguard on black lacquer top) with a gorgeous maple neck (which is NOT beat up). I picked it up in St. Louis in the mid-80s and it supposedly belonged to the former bass player of a local metal band. Fortunately, he didn't trash the neck as bad as the body.

Anyway, it plays beautifully and I was curious if you could tell me when she was brought into the world.

The serial number is B007441.

Thanks for your help and God Bless!

Unfortunately, we have no records going back that far - whether your bass is a pre-Ernie Ball or is one of the earliest made by Ernie Ball Music Man, for those serial number records do not exist. Rod Trussbroken has an awesome website with a wealth of information on Music Man basses which may be helpful (This site not monitored by EBMM or its employees) : Home - Musicmanbass.org, Music Man, Musicman, Music Man Bass, Musicman Bass, Music Man Guitar

I also expect Rod T (aka Gav) to weigh in here any moment.

Russel, your new StingRay 5 was built on 01/13/09 and was shipped to the House of Guitars in San Antonio, TX. Nice! Congratulations on your new bass.

Rob, are those string mutes I see on your bass? We stopped using those in late 1994.

Croox, I did some further research and was still unable to come up with anything. It's as if that serial number was never recorded. (Come to think of it, that's exactly what it is ) The closest guess I come up with based on the numbers around it is that it probably was built around July 2003., which is about two months after these basses started being shipped to stores.

The other possibility is that the neck may have been swapped, but it would have had to have been at the factory and then it somehow wasn't recorded (if it were simply swapped in the field it would come up, but as something else). Or it may some sort of demo or prototype, even though usually those are recorded as well - this is probably one of those where there is no way to know for sure. Sorry!

Hey Dan,

My thoughts exactly when I saw the bass. Who knows? Maybe the store told the guy it was new, maybe he lied to me, maybe he bought it in '95 and has amnesia. I don't really care because it looks brand new now and plays like butter and I got a great deal on it. The only problem with it is that I'm getting blisters from playing it so much!

Cheers!
