Gold Sparkle?

Hello all,

I've got a Stingray 5 that I purchased in '06. From the serial number it seems to be an '04? Also, can anyone tell me the exact name of the color? I would assume it's something like "Gold Sparkle".

EBMM Stingray 5 - E39412

Thanks all,

Phil

Dan,

I have a really beat-up black Sting Ray (black pickguard on black lacquer top) with a gorgeous maple neck (which is NOT beat up). I picked it up in St. Louis in the mid-80s and it supposedly belonged to the former bass player of a local metal band. Fortunately, he didn't trash the neck as bad as the body.

Anyway, it plays beautifully and I was curious if you could tell me when she was brought into the world.

The serial number is B007441.

Thanks for your help and God Bless!

Welcome to the Forum.

No official records exist but the serial indicates 1978. Dates are recorded on the neck heel and neck pocket should you want to go to the extent of removing the neck.

Black with Maple is a great combo

Zak, It was a pretty short-lived color. It proved difficult to shoot. I think it may have lasted a year or so, 2001 to early 2002.

Regarding numbers, I'd have to do some research. Any particular instrument?

Dan

Well mine is a Ray, so I would love to know about the rays. If you don't have anything regarding the numbers I don't really mind, it is just nice to know. Especially as it only lasted a year!

Thanks Dan

Hey Guys,

I just joined this forum about 2 minutes ago to ask 1 question: What is the range of value for a pre Ernie Ball Stingray bass? I have a 76/77 somewhere there. Anyone? I'd like to know.

Serial no. B0003204

Phil, it is actually Medallion Gold, and you are correct on the completion date - 2/26/04. Nice!

Welcome to the Forum!

Unfortunately, we will be of not much help regarding values of older instruments. That is something that the market has to decide. My answer on these kinds of questions is always " as much as you can get".

One problem is that production dates of pre-Ernie Ball Music Man (and even the earliest EBMM) instruments do not exist. All records were either lost or not kept.

Are you thinking of selling it? You may want to check these threads: http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-basses/19780-music-man-basses-sale.html and http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-basses/28597-wanted-buy.html

You could also check this site for info: Home - Musicmanbass.org, Music Man, Musicman, Music Man Bass, Musicman Bass, Music Man Guitar

Hope that's helpful!

Lisa, the StingRay (recipient of your love :)) was built on 10/12/04 and shipped to GC.

Your SUB Sterling bass was completed on 7/09/04. Probably feels neglected - :(

Cheers,

Dan

Hiya Dan

I hope to get a little info on my 2-band Trans White Stingray, serial number 37360. Could I get a born-on date, and is the white pickguard the original color for this bass?

Thanks!

Rex, your Trans White (we liked to call it Mary Kay White) / Rosewood StingRay was completed on 4/01/93 and was shipped originally to Kings Music on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, N.Y., although now the shop is on Gerritssen Avenue.

nice - we recorded only 5 built exactly this way - if there's more, we don't know about them.

Chasfur, this Sterling in Radiance Red was built on Sept 24 2004. It should sport a rosewood fretboard and a white pearloid pickguard.

Just wondered if you know at all, but at the time, the shop I bought it from reckoned it was the first translucent purple in the UK... is that true, or just a overexcited salesman hamming it up?
:D

Cheers again.
