James, I dig digging! This Natural StingRay was built on 12/05/96 and was sent to Gelb Music in Redwood City (no longer MM dealers but still a cool store) near San Francisco, Ca.

Dan

Oh yeah, very familiar with Gelb...my main connection (just 7 miles So of me). I can't remember the last time they sold EB/MM.

Many thanks, Dan!

Hi there. I'm looking at buying another SR5 s/n E25365 which the seller says has an alnico pickup and is about 4-5 years old. I'm guessing it was made with a ceramic pickup around 2001. Can you help me verify any of this? Thanks so much. Regards, Mike

Mike, this StingRay 5 was built on 10/04/01, which makes it a ceramic. we didn't start using alnico again until last year. For the record, the finish is an Autumn Redburst (a nice finish I think), rosewood board, white pickguard.

Hope that helps,

Dan

Thanks so much Dan. Hmmm, the date seems right on, but I"m going to have to get a look at the autumn redburst cause the bass looks like orange sparkle burst to me. Ceramic all the way, that's very cool...

Stingray 5

Hello Dan,
Hope you are good.
I'm at the point to buy in second hand a StingRay 5, but I didn't see and play her anymore... but I have few on pictures.
She is natural with white pickguard (the painting on the body has been taken away and the wood is protected by a wax), mapple fingerboard, a single pickup with a 3 band equalizer.
Her SN is 51098.
Do you think her value is changed by the painting taken away? There is a kind of strange color between the head and the first fret. Do you have an idea? Could it be a varnish issue? Is it a know issue? Is it important for her sound, play, neck, value,...?

Could you give me more information about her such as build date, wood, neck, pickup...?

Do you know if this SR has been built for exportation (which country) or for the States? An idea of the first owner?

Thanks.

Renaud.

Sorry, I was off for the Labor Day holiday and fell a little behind. First of all, welcome to the Forum.

Your "Darth Vader" Black/Rosewood SR4 was completed on 3/30/01.

Cheers
