Although Pre-EB serials are by no means chronological, your serial would indicate 1983 as the year of manufacture. Dates are located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body. If you want to go to the extent of removing the neck a luthier can do this for a nominal fee.

Serial of basso MM Stingray SR5

Hi, I'm a new entry!
I would like to buy an used Stingray SR5 in a shop near here. I've seen the serial number just on the bridge but not on the steel plate behind the bass (where I just see "music Man" and two stylized musiciants). Is this normal?
Anyway, the serial I see on the bridge is 59560.
What can you do about this bass?
Thanks!
Miky

Hi there - I picked up a used Stingray 4 (left handed) with a maple neck. Does anybody know when it was made? The serial # is L03515. I'm guessing post-2003?:) Thanks!

Hi Dan,

What info do you have for B022951? Can you confirm it was originally red with a clear pickguard?

Official records for the Pre-EB's don't exist.

The Bass should date to c.1982. It was originally Sunburst with a Black pg and have pics of it in my files (from Ebay 2007).

Neck removal should reveal if it's had a refin or whether the bridge and it's serial have been fitted to a different body. I suspect the latter. If the neck is removed, you'll see dates located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body.

CORRECTION: yours is an Ernie Ball Bass from c.1985-86. The Sunburst I referred to above must have an incorrect serial recorded.

DOB: 8/28/97 The location for the serial number is normal. The older basses had the s/n on the bridge instead of the neckplate

Hi, I'm new to the forum.
I think I bought my EB Music Man Sting Ray in '88, but wanted to confirm. It's natural with maple, black pickguard, two-band eq.
Serial no. BO22236
thanks
