hi!

i was wondering what was the correct pickup height for steve morse´s guitar. this question had been already debated, however i have a doubt in it...

Steve has its pickups height on his original nº1 guitar as low as they could be, but at the same time the fretboard on that specific guitar is also lower.... so the pickup height on that guitar is made correctly only for it. so considering a steve guitar with the fretboard height like the standard ones selling now (like mine) how should be the height/whats the height he is using?

thats all. gotta say i got my ebmm steve morse std in blk for 3 months and couldn´t be happier, what an amazing guitar!

as far as I understand, the distance is measured between the bottom of the string and the top of the pickup.
So it doesn´t matter how deep the neck sits in its pocket. First you set the action in a comfy way. this sets the distance between fretboard and string. then you will adjust the pickup by measuring between string and pickup.

btw. it´s always a good idea to use the ears and hear what you like :) I tried the neck pickup as low as Steve but in my setup I needed to raise it 1-2 mm´s to get more output.

At least on the Y2D, the height of the neck pickup changes the sound drastically. I have to take down the pickup as it got into too much volume/gain settings while experimenting with higher pickup positions. Or, use the ears to find out what you like.
