To everyone who has emailed me over the years and all the Great people who Visit the Ernie Ball/Music Man Web sites.

I Own over 79 Stingrays and i must say with all the Studies i've ever done over the last 25 years the Ernie Ball Stingrays are by far better over all then the Leo Fender Stingrays.

Comparing 2 band to 2 band. All the People at that factory Make nothing but the finest basses on the Market. So i've been asked by so many to please post my add but due to my crazy shedule
this has only been my first time to do so.

Thanks for Playing the Best Basses ever

I too think modern era Stingrays are better basses than the pre-EB models (in spite of all the 'mojo' hoopla).

One question, though - when you say "I Own over 79 Stingrays", how many Stingrays is that, really?

80? 79 and one in pieces? Over 79?

Ah, late 80's EBs. My first Sting Ray, which I have since sold a long time ago, was an '89 or '90 and it was amazing. The one thing that I don't like about modern Sting Ray 4's is the new bridge without the foam mutes. The basses still sound great but I did prefer that style of bridge.

Stingray Bridge Mutes

The Bridge mutes we're discontinued for a few reasons , I do understand what you mean because that bridge gave the bass that ole cool Stingray look.
How ever they Kept the mass thickness of the Steel in the Bridge which contributed to the sustain of the bass.
There's no doubt in my own mind and with all the test that i've done EB has done an incredible Job at making better basses.

I've been to the factory many times And Sterling Ball won't allow junk to be made, if it doesn't fit his High Quality Standards the instrument doesn't leave the factory no ands ifs or buts.

The team at Ernie Ball/Music Man make instuments of Hand made quality at a Price that's untouchable for Production made instrument.
Just unbelievable.

Without a doubt EB's quality is amazing and the basses continue to be great. The whole 'old bridge vs. current bridge' is purely just a personal taste thing on my part. The StingRays of today are great and without a doubt Sterling is doing an amazing job with the company.:)

See what's so funny too me is this, The strings through in the seventies worked great for more sustain because leo used smaller frets,
I actully get more sustain with a Top Loader Bridge with the bigger frets, The componets used in the 2 band are 99.9% identical to the seventies preamps, infact the tolerences are even better,
so now you won't get the famous "Motor Boating" effect like the seventies we're famous for.

We all called it Motor Boating in the Music Man world, what is was was the preamp would go into some isolation thing and thru you amp would give you the sound like a Motor Boad effect.

It's feed back...it can be a small PUT PUT PUT....as it increases it actualy sounds like an engine....a small boat engine....thus "motor boating". Well known term in the electronics world.

Perhaps i should add....it's not the feedback that muso's experience with the main amp (Jimi Hendrix...where are you?)...it's feedback in the in the pre-amp circuit board itself...located in the instrument....faulty/out of tolerance capacitor!!!???

I wasn't aware that it was a problem....perhaps it explains why Leo Fender kept tinkering with the pre-amps....apparently there's at least 10 different versions.

>>>>>>>>EB has done an incredible Job at making better basses.

IMO the best innovation would have to be the Truss Wheel....full setup only takes me 1/2 hour. With a Fender it takes 1/2 day.

I'd have to agree with you on that. I bought my 'Ray in December 2001, and it is simply a great instrument; extremely well made and assembled!

I really don't know much about the differences between the Leo and the EB models, but, all I can say is that my bass sounds fantastic. Someone once told me that the new 'Rays don't sound warm...

I have no idea how this thought entered his head.

My bass sounds like the Stingray on Sade's "Diamond Life," and "Promise," CDs. I believe the bass player was Paul Denman.

Do I sound like I'm happy with my 'Ray?

100%

And it just feels so good to play.

The next one might be an unlined fretless 5 w/piezos.

Group hug for all Stingray owners! :D

Mike
