You'll find loads of Sub owners right here on this forum.

Have a look through the threads, there has been a massive amount of info posted on the Sub1 over the years.

They are excellent guitars as standard, and they respond really well to mods and tweaks. Very common for the pickups to be swapped out, though some swear by the originals.

Pickguard is the same outline as the Silo Special, and some of us have modified layouts etc.

Sub 1 is Silhouette Special basically, with a poplar body, lesser paintjob, and a few other nuances. But it rocks like a Silo Spec and you can mod it to be in any configuration you would like. The neck is a Silo Spec neck only painted; and has the same C shape as Silo Spec. Do a search on Sub1....

Since we're all flaunting our Subs....I gave mine the Judas Priest treatment a while back. It's not for everyone, but I love how it turned out.

Hey, guys nice Subs...

Mike, can you enlighten me what the Judas Priest treatment is please... sorry to be so dumb but yr Sub looks original to me

Looks like the surface on them is like wrinkled like orange peel ie not flat finish. I've not seen one in the flesh. If so does that make them hard to keep clean

One of the ones for sale on ebay a while back the guy did a full video show it and I was well impressed with the sound he got out of it & that was stock

Thanks

Cheers

Gforce - WOW!! Nice score! A cinammon Sub1 double hummer with tremolo. I love it?
CONGRATULATIONS!

If you want it routed out for a middle single coil pickup send the body to me.

I almost bought a white one a few days ago. Those buggers are rare...

The textured finish is easy to keep clean, in fact maybe even easier than a shiney finish, it doesn't show finger prints and such like a glossy finish would.

Mike, nice Judas Priest metal guard bro

Mike I intended to just display, disport, exhibit, expose, flash, show, lay out, parade, produce, show off, sport, strut, unveil, brandish, flourish, wave; advertise, air, announce, blaze, broadcast, herald, placard, post, proclaim, publicize, sound, trumpet; divulge, talk (about), tell (of); bare, discover, reveal, uncloak, uncover, unmask my Sub 1's.

Was I flaunting.??????

Hehe...the pickguard is custom made. The original diamond plate had a very small pattern and a satin finish. It was really just a thin layer of aluminum over a piece of wood veneer. The new plate is solid polished aluminum and the pattern is MUCH larger and more pronounced. By Judas Priest treatment, I mean it resembles the guitars that the guys in Judas Priest play. They tend to like polished stainless steel pickguards.

Was I flaunting.??????

Jim - it wasn't directed at you specifically. We were all flaunting them. :p That was the intent. :D

gforce, what does your new Sub1 sound like to you?

White Sub 1's are pretty far an few between... so they could be considered rare.. the other colors aren't too rare yet, but give them time and they will be.

the sub sounds great me , very clean when played on a clean channel. Both pickups sounded great. the guitar had a great crunch to it on the dirty channel nice growl to it and great sustain. it has a nice les paul punch to it without the weight of a les paul. this guitar has a great feel to it really nice neck on it. glad i went and bought it.

.....and it should play like greased lightning! very fast neck...

I played my blackie for almost 2 hours today, doing some Satriani like riffs and rythyms, arpegios , with a drum machine.... through my PR head .... loving it....

I remember the SUB being the first EBMM I ever played. I was really blown away by the tone, comparing it to the other brands I used to try and play at GC. It's actually that guitar that convinced me to order my first EBMM Silhouette without trying it. At that time GCs did not stock almost any EBMMs other than the SUBs, but that one really made me trust the fact that the Silhouette must sound brilliant as well. And then there is the infinite factor of Steve Morse playing Music Man for 20 years :D.
