Hey guys,

I recently bought myself an incredibly lovely Music Man SUB Bass and for the first few days of owning it it was a very nice playing bass with some semi-serious setup issues.

So I set it up.

Relief's now at 0.3mm measured at the 8th fret when fretting the first and last frets of the E string.
Action is 2.40mm-ish to 2.0mm-ish across at the 15th fret.
Pickup height is factory but using the Sterling by Music Man setup guide measurement of 4mm to 3mm away across E to G.

Sorry for the metric measurements. :p The problem I have now is that there's a horrible buzz at the 12th fret of the A, D and G strings where the note "honks" out. No other fret does this which makes me think that the fret wire might be a bit too high and that it's hopefully not a neck problem. How can I find out if this is actually what's causing it? If it's probably not this, what else might it be?

Thanks!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that! It's a 2004(?) SLO/USA SUB.

"sounds" like a high fret. I'm having one fixed myself. It takes about 10 minutes TOPS...

Take it to your tech, as WE can't determine what it is...but watch this guys vids https://www.youtube.com/user/davey4557?feature=g-subs-u

He does high fret fixes all the time and he's funny as hell...shows you how to find high frets...but Like BP says, Musicians shouldn't be taking tools to their basses.

After hearing him play a guitar with a high fret and then watching him level it with some lovely looking specialist tools, it seems like that's exactly what this bass needs. Cheers!
