Music Man SUB R.I.P.

This is kinda weird.....I was thinking today about the SUB5 I played @ GC before I started recently getting into 5's. Was thinking about getting one on the Bay for a few bux in the future because I liked the appearance of the p/g as opposed to the SR5.
It's my fault dammit.:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:
 
I can't imagine what it's like to have to cut loose a design and a product BP, but compared to many many many other competitors, to have to lose the SUB line is a pretty good track record still for the company. I mean, the Silo's 20, the SR is 30, the SR5 is comin' up and God only knows how cool the Flux Capacitor will be on the 20th anniversary Bongos!:o

I know there's gonna be a few disappointed kids out there but now we all just have to do our part and help 'em get into all of the 'regular' lines.... so we gotta go out and support our local little punk-hippie-cryin'-in-the-dark-emo-freak-out-harder-than-velveeta-core local bands!! :D
Buy independent CDs, pay for some downloads and give non-wino buskers cash :)
 
Aw, shucks. Thanks for the headsup, BP. Loved those SUBs and am still planning on getting one (soon I think!). :)
 
I'm really sorry to hear that BP - especially since like Tiffs the SUB was what I originally wanted as my first MM as it seemed more achievable.

I do wonder if it is perhaps for the best though, as in the UK I can (and did) pick up a used MM for the prices of a SUB or SUB Sterling - so people get introduced to the best instruments straight away and get addicted sooner :)

I would still like one though - will have to keep an eye on eBay.

Kudos to you for wanting to stick by your principles - that's what makes MM so great and the fact that you actually HAVE some seems to be a rarity nowadays.

It's just not possible anymore and I dont want to buy bodies from china and assemble them in the USA. Every component of SUB increased that we were losing money on each thath we sold.

Waow. Reminds me when I had got my SUB 5. I had had a stealin' deal on it, and it had pretty much of the old Ray feel + the extra B string.
This is the discontinuing of one of the best bangs for the buck ever IMO, but your reasons are quite understandable.

Sounds like a tough decision to have made BP. I hate to see the SUB line go as well but here's to the future guys/gals.
 
SUB was a straight A student.
........Isn't that what they say about every one who dies young.
 
RIP SUB -- sorry to see it go.

I recommended them to several students and young players and they all loved em. But the business has got to work!
 
The SUB is what made me an MM user for life, it's sad to think that someone like me won't become a MM user because of the cost. I will of course one day buy a Stingray or whatever MM turns my crank at the time. And the SUB will be moved to backup duties.

I guess I have to stop recommending SUB's to people and tell them to search for a used Stingray 8(
 
I am sad to hear the SUB line is no longer viable. They were an excellant product at a great price and enabled some players to play a Music Man that might not have been able to afford it otherwise. They were nice instruments.

Sad to see the Sub go, it was a great entry point to the MM range and definitely full of character. Business dictates the viability though, and it's definitely better to drop the Sub range than lower the quality, as that can have so many knock-on effects on a number of levels.

It's all for the good of the rest of the range though, hopefully freeing up resources to maybe increase production a little and keep the quality top-notch.

I'd like to have a Sub in the collection for posterity :D

If your store had a maple fretboard fiver in stock when I was in there I might've picked that up instead of the passive SUB5. :D

Still, this SUB5 is an amazing quality bass. Sad to hear it has to go but you already have a multi-month backlog on the spendier (more profitable) basses so it makes sense to stop supplying these.
