Hi folks, I'm new here.

I don't own an Ernie Ball yet, but have spotted a very nice Musicman Axis in Transluscent Red in a local music shop here in Asia that I am seriously considering. I currently play Suhr guitars. :)

The problem is, this particular Axis guitar has severe buzzing.

I gave it a quick look over and the neck seems straight, and I've noticed the buzzing occurs on mainly the unwound strings, with G being the worst offender, and all the way up to the 21st fret. No buzz on the last 22nd fret. There is also buzzing on the open strings too.

I'm guessing that the offender is the 22nd fret (perhaps not seated correctly or too high?). The neck action appears relatively straight with some slight relief, so that seems normal. A sighting down the neck does not show any curve in the fretboard near the neck join.

The bridge is not exactly flush with the body, and appears that the plate under the fine tuners is not parallel with the body (if it were to be made flush)... could the two bridge of the floyd be screwed in too tight to make the back of the floyd raise up and would that cause the buzzing? I'm not too familar with Floyds and their setups...

I really want to walk in and give them an offer on the guitar and see if I can fix it at home. The other option I have is to get the shop to fix it up before I lay down some hard cash, but I don't have confidence in their guitar setup ability. They are basically a chain store. Actually, I don't have confidence in my own setup ability. but if they cannot fix it, and I can figure out what the problem is then it may just be a quick fix I can do, and hence get a good guitar at a good price. :D

In a perfect world, they should be able to fix it up BEFORE I decide to buy it...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Matt

Matt Please start by not posting a customer service issue here especially when you dont own it yet.....
...you say the neck is straight and necks shouldnt be straight...there needs to be some relief inm the neck. What happens is what should be a minor truss rod tweak ends up getting ndividual frets filed saddles adjusted and then it turns into a disaster.

Have the dealer provide a poper set up by a competent tech and then make you decision

thanks

Poppa, appreciate your reply.

Well, I did say the neck "seems" straight and later mentioned that "The neck action appears relatively straight with some slight relief, so that seems normal." I am fully aware of the neck not being required to be completely straight. :)

Apologies for posting here, I didn't notice any mention of this being a "customer service" section for owners only. Most enlightened companies will also serve their potential customers with the goal of converting them to real life-long devoted customers... I will go and buy another brand instead of Musicman. Enjoy the Economic Recession, Ernie!

As far as I can tell, this thread is in the "Ernie Ball Forums > Gear Talk > Music Man Guitars" section.

Find another company where the owner will answer you.

The problem with customer service on a forum has been documented a thousand times. You ask for help from total strangers that dont have the ability to see the guitar in question. If they were as gifted in their advice as they were in their great intentions I could shut down customer service and sit back and drink drinks through straws and have babes feed me grapes. The problem is it just gets worse and I have to add extra staff to fix the compounded blunders that usually are an easy fix. The next problem is that five other guys then think that maybe their 22nd ret is high or that maybe their guitar has unseated frets.....I hope you can see where I was coming from. Would you ask strangers on an internet for prostate advice? You would seek out a professional

WE are very happy to help anyone. If you read the FAQ's and basic rules you will see guidelines for participation. This started with no rules. I hate rules. I dont do well with authority. Each rule is there because of the wild nature of the internet and some person bent it out of shape. So trying to keep this from being a "My guitar buZzes or my battery is dead forum" we try to skip that and show protos and share some pretty good info.

I think that if you maybe turned down the blind pride one notch you might see that I tried to help you....Before you buy any guitar from a reputable retailer make sure that the guitar can be set up and that it isnt a disaster that someone has butchered and pawned off.

I thought you would prefer that. My bad.

Actually Im doing fine in this recession....

I'd say have the store's tech fix it beforehand, or buy it and take it to a tech you trust. sounds like it needs a good setup done.

I liked the grapes feeding by babes. I ran it by my wife. Now I have a buzz in my bicuspid that is driving me nuts. I should have run the question about finding babes to feed me grapes through customer service first. It would certainly have hurt less.

Once more (again), I appreciate your reply Poppa. You've misinterpreted this thing about a "fight".

Sorry to intrude on your busy customer service schedule, and I'll let you get back to answering customers who actually own an Ernie Ball guitar.
