Hai everyone,

Just listen to a few video from youtube about the New MUSICMAN CLASSIC SABRE....
from the video the bass can really do a Great different style of sounds from classic Musicman Humbucker Sounds and "nail" a Pbass Sounds...

Musicman Have a really Great craftmanship on The Neck (comfortable neck feel) especially the excellent Fretwork even not on the BFR series....

so i bought the Big Al SSS considering the middle pickup that can produce that Pbass, bcause i'm a fan of a Pbass sounds BUT Not The "Precision bass" itself (shape of a body & Pbass neck)...

so I have a question for All of you out there to solve some problem on Musicman contra Precision bass

1.Have anyone of you out there ever tried to add a Precision pickup on the Right position on your EBMM Bass?what does it sounds like?
2.is it possible to add another pickup on EBMM bass without made any addition cavity on the body of the bass?(i never tried to open the pickupcover on my bass)
3.About the new Musicman classic sabre,is it the middle pickup can exactly sounds like a Pbass just like the Big All SSS?

hope all of these question will answer some of Musician out there who wants A Ernieball Musicman basses that has a Great look on the body,Great fast playing neck and Fretwork job BUT wanted a Pbass sounds out of their EBMM bass...

Apparently you have not yet viewed the contents of the
control cavity. One look in there and you will choose to
leave things alone !

Nobody on this forum would wish it were otherwise, but
there are other forums, perhaps with more adventurous
[and irreverent ?] denizens.

I have seen a picture of a StingRay with a P-bass PU in
the "P-spot". A custom pickguard hid any wood butchery
and it looked OK but it was an online ad, and so I didn't
get to play it. OTOH, I knew two things about it just by
glancing at the ad: 1. The owner chose at some point
not to keep it. It may have been "OK" but was obviously
not a treasure. 2. The price was quite low, telling us all
that the world is not scouring the internet looking for a
MM-turned-P-bass.

Nufsedd ?

[Big Al] was so close....But still not the same...
but would it be perfect to have a Musicman comfort neck
but with A P-bass sounds?

Better to mod the P-bass than mod the Sabre. This is not in
the least about brand loyalty ... I love my P-bass just as she
is, fat neck and all. It's about pragmatism, and a predictable
result tonewise.

You have no assurance that the Sabre with the P-PU will be
closer than you can get with the BA SSS [hey, thaz "Basss",
never noticed that afore ... ]. OTOH you have DO assurance
that modding the Sabre is irreversible.

So mod the P-Bass. She's just begging for it, cuzza she's got
that Fender neck pocket. There're necks out there, new and
used, from various models and eras, or you can get a neck
built or modded to the Sabre profile. It's not only reversible
cuz it's bolt-on, but if you don't really care for the result you
can actually receive some part of your expense paid back by
selling the neck back into that market of "For Sale, Neck for
Fender Bass ... ".

-------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S.
I do not maintain a P-bass for any need of P-bass tone. For
all the buzz about "P-bass tone", nobody actually needs it,
nor does anybody actually HAVE it. Too many variables are
involved, so there's really no "it" to be had. I keep a P-bass
for two reasons. I actually LIKE that big fat neck [got some
Warwicks as well ... ], and I also have a P for appearance's
sake. Yup, sometimes you're just spozed to bring a Fender
or bring nothing. Soooooo .... I gots me this Fender thaz a
pretty decent MusicMan mimic, the 2008 P-Dlx with the big
humbucker at the bridge ! Go figger :)
