Hello,

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that for me, The Musicman/Gallien Krueger match is one that wins all the way around. My StingRay 4 HH through my GK1001RBII and a newly added GK NEO212 is the best tone I've come across to date. And that's both in and out of a band context. I run the head pretty much flat with Boost at noon, Contour and Presence to taste and a slight bass boost on the StingRay and it's tight, punchy, growly with booty. I really favor the two outer coils the most. It's a JazzRay and although I could kick myself for not finding this match up sooner, I really feel that after all these years I've finally found my tone. I know there's a lot of Markbass/Musicman love here and on other forums, but for me, there's just something about a MM/GK marriage that really makes me want to play, and makes me enjoy playing even more. It's all subjective and we all have our different tone goals and requirements, but once you find the gear that works for you, it sure is a wonderful feeling. ;)

Thanks for letting me share.

I actually have a less than 1 year old 1001RB 2x10 combo that I am trying to get rid of. Just was not the sound for me.

I think it mostly was due to the style of music that I play.

I just love my 98 stingray 4 with my mesa boogie walkabout amp. It's very light and sounds explosive.:)

210 or 212? The 1001RB combo is a 212. The 210 is a 700RB. Wish I had known. I just ordered a new Neo 1001/212 from GC.

Mine is actually a 2x10 model that they discontinued about a year ago from what I can tell. Do a search for 1001RB 210 and it should come up. I have had no problems at all with it, just not my sound.

GK is what I play, only with the 4x10. I've been thinking about switching out for 12s for awhile now, I like the tone of 12s.

Congrats! Always nice when you find YOUR tone/the rig and bass that hits the spot. There are so many options, settings, combinations of amps/basses/cabs etc. - so finding "the one" is like finding your way through a maze.

i love the tone i get from the neo212 combo!
but.. (hehe... always a butt/ass in there somewhere ;))
after hearing the markbass f1 i cant force myself into enjoying the neo212.
the f1 is a mean machine and is the bassamp equivalent to the bongo
a lil twist on a knob and you got a completely different sound!

I am definitely riding the GK bus, everything is there and easy to get to. Compared to my Ampeg SVT, for me it was the difference between night and day, so much more is there, except the weight of course !

It seems like the last few years, more often than not, when I would go to a GC and demo basses, there would be a GK 1001/700RBII head sitting there ready to go. I would smile as I play and several months back I thought "Why haven't I picked up a GK?" I finally did and although I've spent a lot more on several other heads, it is truly the best bang for the buck IMO. It wasn't cheap getting here either. I had an original SWR Workingman's 300 head I traded in for a SWR 550x when those first came out.I rolled the 550x in to an Eden WT-550 and a year later did a straight trade of the Eden for the GK1001RBII. But for headroom, tone and features (mute, DI w/ level control) this ones a keeper.

I just bought a LMII last night at Guitar Center, what I was wondering is what cab y'all recommend? I was looking at an Ampeg Classic 4X10 4ohm cab. I was wondering if there were a less expensive route to take?

I got the 8 ohm 210 Markbass cab it sounds terrible with my Bongo...please help!

I have heard and read on another forum that Markbass heads have quite a bit of match up success with Epifani cabinets. YMMV. I've done several gigs with my GK1001RBII and Epi UL310 (Series I) and it sounds good. Can't beat the 47 lbs of that cab! In fact, that cab sounds good with a lot of heads. My SWR red face Bass 350, Aguilar AG500SC and the GK.

I'm soooooooooooooooo happy of my GK 700RB-II, it is a joy for my ear everytime I play my StingRay 4.

My advice is to give it a try, maybe with an Ashdown cabinet to round the sound a little bit ;).

I have owned many GKs and loved them. I was on the fence when I bought my new amp between the 1001rb and an eden. My decision was based solely on money as I got a great deal on an Eden Nemesis RS210. I just added a Peavey Tour 210 (I wasn't a big Peavey fan at all) but I walked into GC during the annual "The List" sale and I couldn't pass up this cab for $99 brand new! Once I got it home and got everything set up, I started playing and it sounds great with my Bongo. Also the combo and this cab are both quite lightweight.

I play my SUB5 (among others) through a GK MB115S. Great sound for a small 1x12 combo and extremely versaile. I love it.

Nothing like having a big rig, though.....:p
