Hello, I got a black 2001 musicman with a maple neck & fretboard,
my neck is getting black at some places (like dirt) but my bass never played in a dirty environement or with dirty hands on. I've seen many older musicman without that problem. Is their a way to fix this or did i just get a bad neck.

thanks a lot

Sweat and normal hand grime will do that if the neck has a lot of hours on it and hasn't been maintained.

If it's ground-in hand junk, you might want to (a) sand it lightly with possibly some fine steel wool and DO NOT GET ANY STEEL WOOL DEBRIS NEAR THE PICKUP and (b) re-apply the gunstock oil and wax finish.

Thanks guys, anyway i think it gives it a little vintage look.

The only other bass i own is a geddy lee fender jazz bass, and it has so much finish on the neck that even after 6 years it looks like i bought it yesterday :)

that's why i was asking.

thanks again
