Question for the EB folks...

Do you guys use a UV protector in your paint now? I ask because I've got alot of outdoor stuff this summer, and had a slight concern about taking my Axis. I've seen the EVH models with the faded colors and I don't want that to happen.
 
I'm not super worried about it or anything, just something that popped into my head, and figured I'd ask the EB guys since they seem to always be on the forum with us.
 
This is a question I would be interested in as well. What with the purple sunset guitar I'm getting.

You could always attach an umbrella to the guitar. And insted of waxing the neck use sunscreen. :)

I believe that the EBMM/EVH and some of the early Axes were colored with a dye rubbed onto the wood before clear coating. This is what caused the colors to fade, especially on the purple. If I am correct, they switched to colored paint instead of the dye. I was told that this is the reason that Trans Purple was dis-continued as a color option. The color was extremely dark, and did not show the wood grain very well. EBMM could not get the purple paint to bring out the figuring in the wood like the dye did, so they discontinued it.

In short, I think you are pretty safe. Fact of the matter is, I kind of like the old dye-jobs when they fade. It gives the guitar character. Gives it a broken in vintage look without being beat-to-crap.
