Musicman RD112 or Mesa Boogie F50

I'm working "lates" this week so I don't have to get into work for a while.

I posted recently that my ol' buddy (Mr Dearnaley) had a Musicman RD112 combo - looked like it had been used quite a bit and would come up nice with some TLC.
The front control panel is VERY scratched, but the amp is great. - comes complete with original footswitch but is a heavy little mutha, due to an extra transformer
(damn you in the USA for running on miserly 110v !! ) -£250.

Then I tried a second hand Mesa F50, and I'm going out now to try it out again with my LEAL - (which I'm loving but needs a bit of tweeking).
This amp is £700 and is really stretching the budget.

I'll report back tomorrow.

One of the biggest, and I mean proper Hooj sounds I ever manged to get was by running a Silverface F**der Twin, (super clean, super punchy), and a 25/50 2x12 (beautiful warm crunch tone) in tandem.

I was just thinking that the Musicman and the Marshall might create a similar sort of sound and mean you don't have to dig so deep for the Boogie.

Of course alternatively if you want to sell the Marshall to help fund the Boogie welll.......

I'm a huge fan of the Mesa F-series. If you have any questions ask away. In the interim, check out the Mesa F-series Lounge

Since I don't know what kind of music you like, it's going to be hard to say if the F-series will do the trick for you. IMO, it's one of Mesa's most capable amps for everything from Blackface clean up through metal meltdown.

Ha Dr B - I was thinking of retiring the Marshall - it is 9.5 / 10 condition.
It does have a great sound and works so well with the XT.

I decided on the Mesa, and have paid a deposit on it.
I have taken some photos of both amps that I'll post when I get home tonight or first thing in the morning.

The MM amp is actually labeled as a RD112 one hundred.
I asked if I could post it on the forum and the owner (Mr Dearnaley) said yes - put an extra £50 on it and ask £300.
I won't do that to forumites - if anybody wants this amp it's £250 -no haggling.

Thanks very much for the reply - I'll be sure to want to ask you some questions and I'll PM you in the near future.
My style is blues based but have been doing more Albert Lee style stuff of late.
I wanted good cleans with a second channel for the overdrive - which the F50 has.

I won't have the remainder of the money until the end of July for this amp, so it's a matter of waiting.

I'd love to see the manual for the F50 to read up on it - I wonder if there's a .pdf version of it out there ??

I hope you enjoy the F-50, Spud. I really like the F-Series amps. I'm kind of sad to see that they are now being replaced by the Express Series. I can only hope that the Express Series are as nice as the Fs. I have to agree that the Fs are very versatile. I imagine that the Express Series are too. This spot in the Mesa line has been good for years, dating back to the Caliber Series back in the 1980's. I don't know what came before that. So, I don't know.

Hey Ricman - thanks for the offer, but at this moment I don't plan on selling it.
I even have a set of the drinks coasters that Marshall brought out in the jubilee year.

It is a nice amp and I'll offer it to the forum if I ever want to sell it - I promise !!
