anyone have any info on a musicman stingray Bass serial# B022702 would like to find out if it's pre ernie ball..and the date if possible I've searched and can't find any info.

It's a pre-EB bass, probably from 1983 if the serials nearest yours are accurate (and they probably are).

The records from before Ernie Ball took over don't exist, so that treasure trove of serials from the dark ages is the best resource around.

Have you pulled the neck?

Waylon...that serial indicates a late Pre-EB from c.1983-84 or an early EB Bass from c.1985-86 (the "B" serials carried over). Official records don't exist for either. Some early EB Basses don't have "Ernie Ball" on the headstock logo. A Pre-EB Bass will have 3 dot markers past the 12th fret and the string retainer located on the D&G strings. An EB Bass has 4 dot markers with the retainer on the A&D strings. Dates are located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body.
