Hey guys,

A new guy here. Well, not really  actually I've been lurking around for awhile on this forum and that eventually led me to buy my first ever ebmm which is the Sub 1 :D.

I really enjoy playing this guitar but recently it has been brought to my attention that it might be a fake. I have been looking at pics all over the internet and compared them to mine but couldn't spot anything wrong.

I took the neck off the body and it says "X 50" and its got a letter "D" stamped on the joint.

The sticker on the back of the headstock has a serial no "x12193".

Now is there any solid way to verify this?
Id be really grateful if anyone could help with any info

Thanks guys!

What about the guitar points to it being a fake? I'm no expert but the pictures look fine to me.

By the way, it's something of a forum rule - the guitar doesn't exist without pictures. We need more pictures than either end of the back of the neck! :)

Congratulations, enjoy your new guitar and welcome to the forum!

Hello

Your neck seems to be a real one. The sticker is OK.
If you have some letters on the neck, it's quite common. Here is a pic of my Morse :

wow thnx for the help guys. I've seen the horror of desperate people getting ignored or made fool of on the forum, but certainly thats not the case in this one. I would definitely enjoy my stay here!

Actually it was a friend of mine who pointed that out. He came by, had a play and said that something wasn't right. Like the knob didn't sit tight and the back of the neck felt weird. He went on and said that a real American made guitar shouldn't have those problems. Furthermore there is also the fact that I bought the guitar off ebay. Well I did some research before I bought the guitar and I even went to inspect before hand. I guess he was just confused the sub with the higher end models and made a generalization that all ebmm are over the top.

Yeah about the full pic of the guitar ... well the guitar is in pieces right now lol I thought of doing some modification before putting it back together but I can't decide on how I should proceed. Hmm I've some sweet mods on the sub 1 here on this forum, maybe Ill nab some of those ideas later on.

again thnx guys

Congats on the new guitar. I think the odds of it being a fake is slim to none. I just do not know why some one would want to fake a Sub from the EBMM line. I am by far not calling them a bad guitar but with all the other amazing guitars that they offer why pick that one to fake? I have seem some amazing subs on here with a little work! Also it does not matter what your friends think of your gear only you. My other guitar player does not care too much for my AL HH but I love it! =) I say just enjoy it!

There are a number of very extensive threads on mods (including mine) to sub-1's with absolutely great results. If you have any questions or are looking for ideas, go ahead and ask. They go from simple things like changing a pickguard to bodywork, different pickups, removing neck paint, routing to faux binding work. It's a great guitar to start a project on because of it's relatively low price with high quality materials.

Kind of like faking $10 bills. Why go to the effort when the same amount of effort can be more lucrative?

hey jack I love how you silo'd out your sub!
Id love to be able to do something like sculpting that body contour but I've got zero experience in modding guitar on that scale. The most mod I've done was just changing pickups lol.
but sanding off the neck paint is something I've been thinking for awhile, that much I should be able to do, I guess
what's the worst that could go wrong? is using chemical like paint stripper a no-no?
