Help! My 2003 MM sub made in the US .

Hi. I'm confused by something.
I recently bought a EBMM sub. with a very low serial number. My problem is that the headstock says that it's a stingray. There is no SUB indication at all. It simply has the same headstock as a stingray. As its a very early model ...perhaps its a missprint? Everything about it says Sub. 2EQ..textured body. It plays great and I have no complaints about it..but I just want to know what the double hockey sticks is going on with this guitar? Thanks a lot for reading and your help.

Sounds like a neck swap.

Sacrificing a Ray to upgrade a SUB
is kinda weird, but there is prolly a
reason ... or reasonS. Thaz the tricky
thing. Really hasta be TWO reasons.

Two mysteries:
How did an SR neck get orphaned ?
What befell the original SUB neck ?

Mysteries aside, you got a cool ax if
it really exists. Forum Rule: No ax is
real til we see pix.

If you put SR decals on a SUB it's black on black.

This is true but I have seen white ones for sale on the bay for “restoration” purposes

Either a neck swap, or a neck refinish. I've seen a couple where people took the black paint off and put the Stingray logo on the headstock. Is there a visible "tan" line on your neck? That would quickly indicate that the neck is the original Stingray neck with wax&oil finish, and that someone swapped the necks. Unless it's an older EBMM lacquer neck, of course. Or a "Classic" neck (highly doubt it). Pics would help.

Is not the SUB s/n on the headstock
and the SR s/n is on the neck plate ?
A neck swap ... with no discards, two
mongrels result ... could produce one
ax with no s/n at all and a second ax
with two different s/n

Acoarst, the neck plate can wind up
anywhere ... or be FROM anywhere.

Our friend "Mouth" offered the most
solid possible idea, about the tan line.
Not likely anyone will fake a tan line !
